Christmas in Utah/Arizona

Two of us are travelling from UK to Vegas just before Christmas. Current (flexible) itinerary is 1 night Vegas, 2 nights Zion, 4 nights (including Christmas Day/night) Lake Powell, 1 night Grand Canyon village via Monument Valley, 4 nights Sedona(including N.Years Eve, 2 nights Tucson then fly back to UK from San Diego. We are in our late 30's and love hiking and being outdoors. What is Lake Powell like at Christmas - 4 days too long? Any advice please from others with experience of these areas?

I've never been in the area during December but talked to people who go down to Lake Powell every year in their RV in October and they leave by the end of the month because the weather gets so COLD.

4 days seems like a lot of time at Lake Powell for that time of the year. You might want to add another day to Zion and Grand Canyon instead.

4 days is a little long at Lake Powell unless you plan to be on a house boat, enjoy fishing, or are doing mountain biking or climbing in the area. The town nearby (Page) is not even worth seeing unless you need supplies. There is a lot more to see at the Grand Canyon and the hiking is better too.

These places are all going to be pretty cold at Christmas time. 4 nights at Lake Powell is 3 too many unless you are boating and it is pretty cold for that. I'd stay a few days in Vegas, for one thing you will have jet lag the first day anyway.

I agree 4 days is way too long at Lake Powell in December. Since you love hiking and the outdoors, you should add some time in Tucson. It is much warmer and sunny and there is beautiful hiking all around the city in Sabino Canyon, Tucson Mountain Park, Pima Canyon, etc. Another suggestion is that you add Canyon de Chelly to your itenerary. It is south of Monument Valley, and one of the most beautiful places in the state.
