Christmas in New York State

Hi There,
We're coming from Bermuda for a romantic few days of "proper" Christmas over the long Christmas weekend; looking for somewhere in the countryside (snow would be a bonus!) with a log fire in the room. Ideally dinner would be available on site (especially on Christmas Day itself), and we would be no more than 3 or so hours drive from JFK.
Any recommendations out there, up to $400 per night?
The best sounding place I've found is Scribner Hollow Lodge in the Catskills, but it gets slated on tripadvisor and Yahoo.

Cheers.

You may have problems finding anything this late, but check out the Old Drovers Inn:

Wheatleigh in Lenox, Mass gets good reviews from posters here and on tripadvisor.

I see rates of just under $400 for that weekend. Lenox is a nice town with plenty of good restaurants too. It should be about 3 hrs. assuming no bad weather :-? They do have fireplaces in some rooms.

The Orchards is an inn in nearby Williamstown, Mass., another nice town with 2 excellent museums. It has 2 rooms with gas fireplaces.

Le Jardin, also in Williamstown, evidently has 1 room with a fireplace and was recently renovated according to a review on tripadvisor. Good restaurant too.

A bit closer is Cold Spring, NY

Finding snow within 3 hours of JFK might be a real issue this early in the year (with snow on the ground or faling 3 hours doesn't get you very far from the aiport).

Although there is a snow advisory at the moment we frequently don;t get much snow until January - unless you want to go further north.

You have some good recos - but definitely don;t count on the white stuff.

Don't know if you've picked a place yet, but came across a list of top inns/b & bs in the NY area. The #1 choice was the Wolverton Inn in New Jersey and they have a few rooms with fireplaces. The area is very pretty and picturesque (near Bucks County Penn.).

Other northeast places listed are

Other winners in the Northeast category:
1. Ostrander’s Bed and Breakfast, Canton, NY
1. Rookwood Inn, Lenox, MA
2. New London Inn, New London, NH
3. Old Judge Mansion, Troy, NY
4. Wake Robin Inn, Lakeville, CT
5. West Hill House, Warren VT
6. Berry Manor Inn, Rockland, ME
