Children's Picture Books
Hello,
I love childrens picture books and work on collecting them from wherever my loved ones are living at the moment. Currently my boyfriend is living in Boston, while I'm stuck in Michigan. I've started looking for books. So far I've gotten,
Make Way For Ducklings (of course)
Johnny Tremain
The Trumpet of the Swan
Boston (Then & Now)
Beneath The Streets Of Boston: Building America's First Subway
You Can't Take a Balloon into the Museum of Fine Arts
M is for Mayflower
Journey around Boston from A to Z.
I remember when I went to a Best of Boston store, there was a whole wall of Childrens book dealing with Boston. I was wondering if anyone can think of any that I may have forgotten or not thought of. Unfortunately my next visit is yet to be planned so I can't go and look for myself.
Thanks!

These are not Boston related, but when I was in Piermont, NY (just south of the Tappan Zee) last weekend, I found a gallery with the work of Rob Gonsalves. He illustrated two children's books called Imagine a Day and Imagine a Night.
Gonsalves does tromp l'oiel (did I butcher that spelling?) type work in the style of Escher - very interesting to look at.

It's about two hours west of Boston, but sometime when you're visiting your boyfriend you might enjoy a visit to the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art on the campus of Hampshire College in Amherst, MA. The web site is www.picturebookart.org

I have checked both Amazon and B&N, that's how I got the books that I have. I was sure, however, that I had seen more at the store. Perhaps I was mistaken.
Thanks for the tip on the museum, I may make sure he drives me out there.

There is at least one picture book of Longfellow's The Midnight Ride of Paul REvere.
For a rural New England (NH) picture book, The Ox Cart Man is just beautiful.
The Obadiah picture books by Brinton Turkle are about a Quaker family on Nantucket
Can't think of too many other picture books but books for kids about the Boston area with illustrations include
Jane Langton's The Fledgling and the Hall Family trilology
Little Women
Tituba of Salem Village
And then What Happened Paul Revere? -- Jean Fritz
Mr. Revere and I by Robert Lawson

More Jean Fritz books include "Why don't you get a horse, Sam Adams?" and "Sign here, John Hancock". Another Revolutionary War book is "My brother Sam is dead" by Collier & Collier.
Good luck in your search.

A huge thank-you to karens for mentioning the illustrator and title of "Imagine a Night." I had been trying to remember this book, in vain, until I did a search here and luckily came across her post. Thanks!
