Glad you enjoyed Wicked, JJ5. Sounds like a nice time - despite the weather. Quite the opposite here. We were close to 90 yesterday and our high should hit 90 today. Again... this is MAY?!
My sister put my earlier-talked-about 3 year old neice up to a little Nanny-Nanny-Boo-Boo routine to my B-I-L last weekend about the Yankees being in last place. He's not even really a Yankees fan... he belongs to the "I hate the Braves" group and therefore chose the Yankees. We're loving this. Can't wait to see them this weekend and add to his pain...

And I was quite incorrect.
We are 25-9.
Maybe I just can't believe it and am protecting myself for the "fall." Hope not.
And I hear the Yankee "dis" constantly everywhere I go. I say, "Never poke a fallen or sleeping monster in the foot." I try to dwell on the positive.
Field's was great too. You will love your stay.
I found two London Fog coats at 1/4 of their original prices. And I dislike shopping, but LOVED my day.
Trattoria #10 was outstanding.

Yes, I was supposed to go tonight but my son's friend is using my ticket. I'm going Mon. or Tues. instead.
We got this date on purpose to yell at Sammy Sosa (we used to call him skinny) but he isn't showing up anyway.
Are your Orioles ready for some cold wind? We had winter coats on yesterday in downtown Chicago. It's up to a balmy 55 right now with a wet damp wind chill. Feels like 35.

Sunday, May 15, 2005, the streak ended.
The Orioles, in the fourth game of this series at the Cell, did not allow the White Sox the lead.
White Sox superb record of consecutive games played with the lead ends at 37.
Since the last was 27 games by the Dodgers in 1955, I suspect I will never see this record broken. Well, as Aaron Rowand said on tv last night, tomorrow we will just start over.

JJ5-
Just wanted to post my sad news update that my trip to Chicago has been canceled for this year.
My travel/baseball friend broke her ankle 2 weeks ago & will not be ready to go.
I told her it was ok & we will plan for next year, but that if Wrigley suddenly closes or Greg Maddux leaves Chicago, she's in T-R-O-U-B-L-E!
I also reminded her of how long it took me to talk to my friend who made me postpone our trip to NYC to visit said "travel/baseball" friend when she was living there. We were supposed to go 2 weeks after 9/11/01 & she would not get on a plane. Not so bad, right? A reasonable issue. Except that I missed seeing Cal Ripkin play in his last season (never saw him play in all my games) - we had tix to see him play in NY. I thought of that a few weeks ago & was mad again. I give FAIR warning.
So, we'll be there next year. [-o<

So sorry!
And I'm going to see the White Sox at the Cell against the World Champion Boston Red Sox next Sunday. It will be a 2pm game and probably close to 100 degrees (AND we are in a drought that has fried us up) but I am REALLY looking forward to it.
I'm 5 for 5 on wins this year also- since all 5 games I have gone to, they have won. But with 62-31 and the best record in baseball, the Sox south side ticket is now hard to get and selling out. You can't depend on walk up tickets for most days, and all weekends any more.
Don't put it off and come to see the Sox. We are having a ball.
Sunday I have our worst pitcher, Conteras, so I don't know if I'll keep my perfect record, but I'll yell enough to help.
I'm going to the play-off games this year if I have TWO broken legs.

Oh yes, we have a magic number already. It is 59. Every W.Sox win or Minnesota loss reduces the number by 1.
And they do have a excellent rain shower to walk through on hot days like Sunday. So if you want to get wet to cool off, you can. The kids love it and once we did it full boat when we were in the pouring rain anyway. That was one of the earliest memories my oldest grand-daughter has. Like you detail- don't put it off.

If there is any light in my "tragedy", I am going to see the Red Sox next Monday in Tampa. This will be with my WHOLE family including Mom and 3 & 5 year old niece & nephew. I bought them each a baseball with a B on it last year in Boston so I explained that is who we are going to see. Will be a great (also hot) time.
Wrigley next year. China cat, you can come, too. We should have baseball GTG's!
Enjoy your season JJ5!

What a memory!
104 degrees and a lonnnng game at the Cell on Sunday. Loolapalooza was being held downtown as well. We were in the thick of things from 1 to 6 pm. The rain rooms were USED.
We sat in Upper Deck 522 right over 1st base and I have NEVER sat there before, as there was very little to choose from when I purchased a couple of weeks ago.
Turned out to be GREAT seats and in the shade.
There were some Boston fans in evidence. But right in front of me sat a man much younger than I that re-taught me the words to the Go-Go 1959 White Sox song. They are starting to do it constantly the last three innings.
Beer sales were down, water sales were up. Some box seaters came up by us for the shade. We had a BALL!
Jermaine Dye didn't play and we had our worst pitcher and we still won 6-4. I absolutely LOVED the Manny bobble and drop that let our last run in. It made up for the last play of the game Saturday.
We're coming!

JJ5, now I know why the Red Sox lost...you were there, and the white sox had to uphold your perfect record! and to think, we used to beat up on Contreres so bad when he was a Yankee, but couldn't do it in Chicago.
you just gotta take the good with the bad with Manny. Gamewinning homers, game losing bobbles, bad baserunning, good throwing arm, hiding in the Green Monster during the game...it's all just part of the complete Manny package. And its ALWAYS entertaining.
neworleanslady...enjoy the game tonight, with your family.
I'm all in favor of a Fodorite baseball GTG...Camden Yards? Wrigley field? where shall it be?

Can't forget this 64-33!
And to all the Chicagoans on this board, the high rise projects near IIT are DOWN, you can sit in the Cell on the Upper Deck first base side and see the lakefront along the entire horizon line. I could count the sailing ships that were out for Loolapalooza.
High density, high rise (more than 5 floors) public housing is the worst idea ever devised by governmental authority in the USA, worse than Prohibition. Since the partial demise of the high rise project in Chicago, the murder rate has gone down 27% in just two years.

I'll go anywhere but Wrigley. And you don't want to go to that dump. Not only do you have concrete falling on your head, poles in your face, but if you're female you'll have to wear Depends or use the preferred "bathroom" technique for the younger crowd. The only other time I have seen that was when I was in France.

By a fluke, I once got Ted Turner's box for a Braves game at the old Fulton County Stadium.
My girlfriend's new boyfreind's mom was Ted's assistant. An AP press guy took all these photographs of us. For some reason they thought we were Delta FAs.
Oh that hunky Dave Justice.
Aaahhhh.
Did someone say baseball?

No, they sure don't hurt the eyes!
I love Paul Konerko, he is probably going to take the place in my heart next to Robin Ventura.
I have two grad aids in mid-twenties that cried when Mark Buehrle got engaged. Scott Posednik, John Garland, and Jermaine Dye pictures are in BIG evidence near their timesheet rack.
Before you go to a game, always play John Fogarity's "Centerfield" really, really loud and dance awhile to it- it sets the mood.
And yes, my record is now 6-0 on the year for attendence wins.

How nice!
swalter518, do you know I am getting an extra strong antenna/radio set up this week to take to the lake with me. There is a station in Marcellus or Cassopolis near Big Fish, that is overplaying my crackily 1000 AM.
Next weekend I plan to listen while floating myself.
You have to learn the Go-Go song, it really is awesome.

I am bringing this old one up to say the following:
Everyone from the Midwest and transplanted Midwesterners everywhere!
Come on, you can jump on the bandwagon- there is still plenty of room. It's 59 in Chicago, and I hope the welcome for the Angels is at least that chilly.
GO WHITE SOX!
And if you are traveling from Anaheim, LA or environs- BRING YOUR COATS.

Hello JJ5,
Interesting to learn of your fondness for Paul Konerko. He is my sister's nephew and I see him at family gatherings in Rhode Island during the off season. He's recently married so you need to consider other fantasies.
He is a very nice guy and not as big as you'd think a major league power hitter would be. Has super strong hands though.
As the Red Sox are done I'm now firmly in the Chisox corner.
