Chicago-Museums/coffeehouses/cafes/Millenium Park

What museums in Chicago are worth the visit other than the Art Institute? Anything similar to MOMA?

As far as hanging out to read or talk quietly for a long time, any particular coffee houses or cafes? Any combinaion bookstore/cafe?

Is it safe to stroll Millenium Park after dark?

The Museum of Contemporary Art is outstanding - we actually enjoyed it more than the Art Institute. It's in the NMA area, on Chicago Ave. behind Water Tower Place. There's also a Borders Books and Cafe on N. Michigan Ave. (800 block, I think!)

Millenium Park felt very safe to me after dark; however, I was strolling w/ a group of 4. Did not encounter any threatening types. Just be alert, and stay w/ a group.

For that matter, Grant Park felt pretty safe too. Above conditions applied. There were a few homeless stragglers -- mostly sleeping on the benches or down by the tracks. But they weren't threatening at all -- just sad.

If you like photography, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, part of Columbia College, is pretty interesting.

Because Fodor's STILL hasn't figured out how to tweak the code needed to add line breaks when the poster hasn't (thus leading to the need to scroll ALL the titles in the left frame) I've copied this thread to a new one with the same title (except some spaces in it.)

Apologies to the OP for this intrusion, but this really bugs me, and I know it bugs other posters too. Please let this thread "sink" out of the top 50 and post further messages to the other thread.

Yo - Fodor's - this is not a rocket science fix.
