Chicago Loop Hotel
Hello,
My son and I will be traveling to Chicago early August to visit the museums - Field,
Shedd Aquarium, Art Institue. I gather we
should probably stay in the Loop, but can anyone recommend a hotel - not too expensive. Hopefully with a breakfast buffet?

Forgot to include this info: We will
be flying into O'Hare and taking the
train into Chicago. Are any of the loop hotels close to a train stop? It
would be nice if we could just walk to
the hotel from the train, otherwise I
guess we could get a cab.

A reply to your previous post suggested the Homewood Suites (you can click your name at the top of this page to find your old posts.
I'm not sure a suite is necessary with one child and one adult (that's who I think is traveling from your post, please correct if that's wrong).
These hotels might be options for you, but you'd have to check each for price:
Best Western Grant Park
Fairmont Chicago
Hard Rock Hotel
Hilton Chicago
Hyatt Regency
Palmer House Hilton
Silversmith Crowne Plaza
Swissotel
Of these I've stayed at the Hilton Chicago, Palmer House and Hyatt Regency and been happy with all. I think the Hyatt Regency has a great location right on the river, so it's pretty convenient to the museums and other areas as well. The Hilton Chicago or Silversmith are probably most convenient to Grant Park and museums though.
Not sure about breakfast buffet anywhere, but there are lots of breakfast options around.

We posted at the same time.
The blue line comes into the city from O'Hare. Here's a map of the downtown train system:

The blue line runs up and down Dearborn in the Loop, so all the hotels in the loop area are no more than a few blocks from an el stop. Of course, some are more convenient than others, but you can compare the addresses to the el map.

In addition to the above, I would add the Hotel Monaco and the House of Blues Hotel (not technically in the Loop, but close enough). My parents recently stayed at the Hard Rock and loved the location. Might be kind of tough to find a hotel with a (free) breakfast buffet.
