Chicago - do I need my big furry coat?!!?

Hi

We're arriving this week (from the UK) - judging by the forecast, it's going to be early 50s, overcast and rainy!

What is everyone wearing in Chicago?

I don't know whether to bring my big furry coat or just wear a short sheepskin type jacket.

Any advice welcome!

Check the forecast again just before you leave. Then, bring whatever coat you'll be most comfortable in while out and about. I'm still wearing my heavier coat in low 50's - when it's windy, it seems even colder. But, for rain, I'd be wearing a wool blazer under a trench coat and have a sweater along for good measure.

What you will need is a good raincoat and a sweater. If you wear your heavy coat you will look like a refugee from Florida ;-) Besides, April temps can be from 40-80, so versatility is important!

Bring a rain coat!!! - Weather here fluctuares radically - it is going to be as warm as 80 in the suburbs today! - but by the weekend it will be down to 40 again

We don't wear animal skins in the USA anymore... bring rubber, nylon, cotton, etc.

No one is buying 'animal skins' to wear in the USA?
Wow...
Someone better inform the countless leather shoe store owners, leather belt retailers, and all those watch dealers who sell leather bands that they no longer have customers.
When did all this happen?
Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks to everyone for their response. I just thought I would add that it is not a 'fur coat', just a very casual 3/4 length coat with a fake fur collar!!!!

Fake is very 'in' in the UK!

Chicago is very unpredictable. Eventhough we may break records today, it is supposed to be very cold and rainy by the end of the week. Bring what you will be comfortable in if it is really in the 40s or 50s as predicted. Two weeks ago it was 80 one day and the next day it was 70 in the morning but dropped to the mid 40s by lunch - the following week it snowed - and now it will be 80 again.

Also, they do still wear fur coats in Chicago but not usually in April.

Today, it is going to be up in the mid to high 80 degrees in the Chicago area, with wind gusts of about 20 MPH. I am out in short sleeves - very comfortable. High tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80's, lows in the 50's. On Wednesday though, the highs go back to the low to mid 50's & they are prediciting some rain for the rest of the week. For us around here, 50's will mean maybe a lite jacket that also can protect you from the rain, during the day, & maybe add a sweatshirt or sweater at night.
