Hi.

I have been to Chicago many times already, and even stayed there for 2 months. Am going back to the city and looking for any possible interesting suggestions. I love walking tours, exploring, and eating/markets/restaurants. I am not into art museums or galleries.

I have already done the boat architectural tour, explored downtown, Frank Lloyd Wright's buildings, University of Chicago area, Gold Street (?), several neighbourhoods including Roscoe Village/Lakeview, Cultural Center, Millenium Park.

So far, I just have plans to see a show. Any other suggestions?

Check out Evanston. They have beautiful homes along the lake, Northwestern University of course, and a nice downtown with good restaurants and bars.

Chicago's not a big outdoor market place but there is one on Canal Street every Sunday with good Mexican street food

Devon Avenue is Chicago's Little India, go there if you want to try Indian food or do a little window shopping. Chinatown has some good places to get dim sum and a stretch of Chinese junk stores.

Chicago has several historic cemeteries-Graceland and Rosehill are two of them.

Restaurants-Chicago has a ton of them, it's much easier to suggest something when you give a budget and a type of food. Or perhaps where you'll be when you want to eat.

When you say you've seen Wright buildings, have you been to Oak Park. We were in Chicago for first time in the fall, and we are into art musuems and galleries, but the favorite part of our trip was Oak Park and visiting the church Wright designed and an absolutely wonderful tour of his grandparents' home followed by the home he built for his bride. Also a museum of his life, filled with his memorabilia and family mementos. We went by the El I believe and the travel took all of a half hour. Found a great Italian restaurant to have late lunch but can't remember the name. I think the town is geared toward the tourist and there are many eating choices.

We will be in Chicago last week of May and planning on going to Oak Park for the tour. Anyone know the name of the Italian restaurant mentioned in the above post?

I have to take off, but Second City came to mind. So many people become famous and once did a stint at Chicago's Second City!
Millenium Park is probably stating the obvious.
All of the summer street fests will be coming up. Printer's Row Book Fair, German American Fest, many many others!!

For another neighborhood, Andersonville (Clark and Foster) has gotten hipper, with a bunch of fun little shops and restaurants.

On a nice day, the Botanic Gardens are beautiful. You can take Metra pretty close.

I love Second City. What about catching a baseball game...I'm partial to the Cubs

I am a fan of the Lincoln Park Zoo. Very doable in an afternoon.

The Segway Tour of the city is fun. If you want to get out of the city, Geneva is a quaint historic town accessible via Metra trains (Ogilvie Station) - little shops, bike path along river, etc. Arun's is a pricey, but fabulous restaurant. Lincoln Park Zoo is free & a great 'city zoo'. Michigan Avenue for shopping - walking or biking along the lakefront.
