Chicago- Addams Family Musical

The Adams Family Musical is coming to Broadway and I am thinking of getting tickets for the family. Has anyone seen the Chicago theatre production? How scary is it for a 5 year old?

Although I've often been told I act like a five-year-old, I'm not sure I'm qualified to speak for one.

The opening number is set in a cemetery, but it's a toe-tapper, so hardly scary. The only other thing I recall is a number where Wednesday is torturing Pugsley on a rack, however it's a musical number and he's singing how great is is to spend quality time with his sister.

There is supposed to be a major reworking of the show before the B'way opening and one of the numbers that reportedly is on the chopping block is the opening. I'm sure there will also be other things cut and replaced with new pieces, so it's difficult to say what the show you'll see will be like.

Saw it in Dec with family and did NOT like it at all. Did not recommend to local friends who were thinking of going. VERY long and not that riveting. (I actually thought of leaving at intermission and I NEVER do that.) Cannot believe most songs were not edited and shortened before show hit the stage. Bebe N was no great shakes, and the male lead (cannot reacall his name right now) was good but could not carry the show. Not scary at all. We see a lot of Chgo shows, subscribe to Goodman, etc but could not recommend this.

Five of us saw it in December, and we all liked it quite a bit--but I would not recommend it for a five year old.

We thought that Bebe Neuwirth and Nathan Lane were lots of fun to see and good in their parts. They were why we went, and we weren't disappointed.

I saw the show with 3 other 60 year olds. We loved the sets, singer who played Wednesday, and Nathan Lane. We thought Bebe was horrible. I don't know if she changed her singing voice to suit her character, but it was terrible and very uncomfortable to listen to. I think a young child would be bored to death. My 20 year old thought the play was endless!

Are you serious? Nathan Lane. Would you recognize movie names like Brad Pitt or Julia Roberts? Well in Broadway terms he's right up there.

I can't imagine Bebe being bad in anything - but, you never know how they are directed. We saw her perform each of the leads in "Chicago" (many years apart), and she was awesome!

Nathan Lane screamed incessently and chewed up the scenery in "The Odd Couple" and Matthew Broderick was too much of a dufus. Having seen them perform splendidly in "The Producers", I wondered if it was the director.

Saw it last weekend in NYC and loved it. They have done some re-work on the numbers and I thought all carried well. Bebe is good (not GREAT), but remember she is playing Morticia Addams - this is not a flouncy musical character , but rather a serene/stoic one ...not all that far way fro Lilith....

.... Not sure a 5 year old would "get it" .... the Obama girls apparently liked it!

My family (all adults) just "voted" to see Adams Family when we're in NY this summer.
Since it was this or Hair I appreciate reading everyone's comments.
