Chevy Chase (MD) area hotel

Will be picking up dtr at conference at 4H facility in Chevy Chase. Need hotel for a Saturday night in February. On hotel search sites, seems Bethesda is right nearby - not familiar with area. Is this OK for woman traveling alone. Will have car, but not a sightseeing in DC trip - just a pick-up stop on way back to Boston.

Gail - Check back a little later. I will ask my SIL - Chevy Chase is his hometown and parents still live there.

Chevy Chase and Bethesda are two "rich" suburbs of DC. They are right next to each other and are nice. If you have a hotel in downtown Bethesda you will have a lot of restaurants to walk to and a couple of movie theaters. Is there a particular hotel you are interested in?

gail--Bethesda is an upscale area not far from the 4H facility. It has several hotels like the Hyatt and many restaurants. If you are just wanting aplace to stay for the night, you might find the Pooks Hill Marriott on Rockville Pike (also called Wisconsin Ave)just up the road to be a suggestion or other places on Rockville Pike in Rockville. That would be convenient to leave on 495 then 95 on your way to Boston.

Gail--We have stayed at the Pooks Hill Marriott many times. It is located in a very safe area. There are many restaurants to chose from in the Bethesda area.

The 4H Center is easy to get to and by the way, it's a beautiful facility.

Gail My SIL recommended this hotel

Apparently it is in DC but an area called Friendship Heights and it gets excellent reviews. It is adjacent to Chevy Chase

He also said Bethesda was a good location.

The Pooks Hill Marriott is a nice facility - have been to many meetings there - it does a lot of conferences and such. It has free parking too. However, it is on Pooks Hill road, not the Pike and there is only one restaurant other than the hotel's within easy walking distance. Once you get onto the Pike and go a bit south you will be in downtown Bethesda and restaurant central.

If you want to be more central in Bethesda, there is the Doubletree that has underground parking at $20/day and a Holiday Inn closer to Chevy Chase with underground parking at $10 day. Both are on the Pike (Wisconsin Ave.) Lots of other choices Bethesda as well.

Part of Chevy Chase is in Maryland and the other half is in D.C. Hope that helps explain it. Bethesda adjoins Chevy Chase.

The Embassy Suites gets good reviews on the board and you can also check with TripAdvisor.

Chevy Chase is a safe area but, as always, women should be mindful after dark.

You say you have a car, so I assume like the previous poster that you will be driving back to Boston. This does make the Pooks Hill Marriott an excellent choice, but not much around there in terms of restaurants. The 4H facility is on Connecticut Avenue, so you'll have to get over to Wisconsin, which isn't a big deal.

The Embassy Suites in Friendship Heights is a good location for strolling out for dinner, but further from the 4H facility, Beltway and 95 for driving back north.

This also might be an option: http://www.residenceinnbethesdahotel.com/. I don't have any first hand experience with this hotel, but the location is great. It is in Bethesda, so closer to the 4H facility in Chevy Chase than that Embassy Suites. (Just turn on East West Highway from Connecticut Avenue to Wisconsin Ave, and turn left and go just a couple of blocks to the hotel on the left.

Thanks all - my dtr (age 17) will be at Congressional Youth Congress thing at 4-H place T-Sun AM and I am driving from Boston, dropping her off on Tues and then heading down to Savannah to spend a few days with our son in college there. Then back to get dtr and home to Boston. Since I will be alone these places sound like good options. I will have my own car which has GPS built-in so I think I can manage not to get lost.

Now if someone could just promise we will not have a February snow storm during President's Day week I will be even happier.
