cheap Vegas eats
I need some ideas for places to eat in Vegas that are pretty cheap. 4 of us will be in town the end of Feb. I've already been recommended the breakfast buffet at Palace Station, and I know that food is really cheap late at night - but I don't anticipate being on the Strip at all hours with my parents, so I need some places for meals at normal hours.

There's a Denny's on the strip. Outside of Harrah's is a little Courtyard area - there is a Ghiradelli in there. You can also walk into Harrah's via the courtyard and they have little sandwich/drinks place.
Ceasars has a nice food courtyard where you can pick up tacos and that kind of fast food.
The Fashion Show Mall just north of Treasure Island has the usual mall food.
New York, New York casino has a nice "All American" (I forgot the exact name) type of restaurant where you can get burgers and things.

Go to the Stardust's coffee shop. They have several specials, one of which is $9.99 prime rib. It's actually pretty good! Ellis Island (just behind Bally's) also has a steak special under $10 that is good.

Sharing is common in Vegas, places like Grand Luxe Cafe in the Venetian may look expensive but the portions are very large so 4 people can share 2 appetizers and 2 sandwiches and barely have room to share one of their huge desserts.
The Gold Coast has an inexpensive good buffet and is a little easier to get to than the Palace Station - a shuttle bus leaves from Barbary Coast(center strip) ever 25 min or so. Gold Coast also has a great T-bone steak dinner special around $9, and the coffee shop has good chinese food.
Where will you be staying? For breakfasts you definitely won't want to venture out too far.

If you are staying at the Aladdin, they have one of those design-your-own-burger places that was very popular last time I was there. But BEWARE - every little thing you add on will cost you $. A fairly simple burger will end up costing about $10 or more. The did have wonderful french fries though

Thank you everyone for your wonderful ideas. I ended up making a list (I am a very detailed person) of all the places under $15 on the lasvegas24hours site, added the other suggestions made here, and voila, I have quite a list. THANKS again, everyone. I love this site. lol

What do you mean by "cheap??" Everyone has a different idea of cheap. What's your price range?? Those are good suggestions by Christie. Downtown has some of the cheapest meals as well! Also, go to the Slots-of-Fun casino. A foot-long hot dog for under $2!!

I had a slots o fun hot dog. Not bad! You can pass on Westward Ho's coffee for a nickel though. It was pretty bad. LOL. I think there was a "Penny" casiono across from Slots that had a cheap hotdog and shrimp cocktail. As I recall it was okay. Downtown at the Golden Gate the shrimp cocktail is supposed to be great and still 99 cents. Chipotle near Harrahs has taco and burrito fare in the 5- 6 range. Good stuff, very fresh. Two more that I haven't tried: Terribles and Mr. Lucky's coffee shop at the Hard Rock Hotel had a $7.77 steak and shrimp. You could check to make sure they still have that special.

There's a difference between cheap and value. I tend to opt for value over cheap. One of my favorite values is the Sunday brunch at the Verandah restaurant located in the Four Seasons (located inside Mandalay Bay).
When I was there last, the Sunday brunch was $25 per person and it was fabulous. By having the brunch as a substitution for breakfast and lunch you will have an upscale meal for far less that it would cost for a comparable dinner and get two meals for the price of one. Be sure to make a reservation.
For a great affordable lunch, try the Pink Taco Mexican restaurant inside the Hard Rock. Wonderful food for less than $10 per person. If the weather is nice, you can sit on their patio.
For dinner, the Spice Market Buffet at the Aladdin is the best. It will cost $25 per person, but if you think about it, you will have soup/salad, entree/side dishes, soft drinks, and desserts - a great value and the food is wonderful. Since it is a buffet, a tip of $1 - $1.50 per person is appropriate for the server. This will cut down the expense a bit as well.
For truly cheap meals, try the Ellis Island located behind Bally's. Many great dinner choices for under $10 per person. Some for under $5.

trippin....Key Largo has been demolished. Terribles across the street has some decent specials.
Aladdin coffee shop is expensive, but I've seen them give out $5-off coupons for the buffet on the sidewalk between Aladdin & Paris, in a little coupon book.
Caesar's is not a long walk from Aladdin & the Forum mall there has Cheesecake Factory. Portions are huge, 4 people can share 2 salads and 3 appetizers and barely have room for cheesecake. Bertolini's in the mall has great gourmet pizza. And even the terrific Chinois has affordable prices at lunchtime and you can share a few items. Sharing is the norm in Vegas so don't be shy to just ask for an extra plate.
If you walk down to Barbary Coast, you can take their quick shuttle bus to the Gold Coast which is near Rio and Palms casinos. Gold Coast and Palms both have good, cheap buffets, maybe $7 for lunch and $11 at dinner. Palms probably has better food, Gold Coast is more hit-or-miss, but Gold Coast coffee shop has a great t-bone steak special and good chinese food. Their dining room(CORTEZ ROOM) is a great place for prime rib, nice restaurant, good service, and half the price of other steakhouses. Be sure to ask if their are any specials not listed on the menu.
