Cheap Eats on Maui?

I'll be staying with my family (3 teen-age boys!!) in Kihei and would like information on cheap, fun places to eat. I've heard of local "plate lunch" places, does anyone have info? Thanks.

Bring plenty of money, because food was expensive this last time that we went!

Aloha Mixed Plate in the cannery mall in Lahaina is supposed to have pretty decent prices, and Maui Tacos is reasonable, and McDonald's and the like.
Hopefully you're staying in a condo, because you can really save some dough by cooking your own breakfasts.

Truthfully, I really don't think there's any such thing as truly cheap in Maui!
Example: Average price of hamburger poolside at Hyatt $8.50
Hamburger at Four Seasons Poolside $15.00; Hamburger at Grand Wailea Poolside, $12.75, hot dogs were $8.50
Obviously, these are the extremes.
I really think the fast food scene might be the best way, or the plate lunches. You can also get the Maui menus magazine on line. I'm not sure if it's actually www.mauimenus.com or what, but you could do a word search.
That might give you a much better idea of prices.
Also, in the shopping center near the airport, we stopped one day to get a Jamba Juice, which here in CA would cost about $2.85 or $3.25, there it was $4.65.
There's a Costco near the airport and also a Wal-Mart and a Big K-Mart.

Hi Susan:
The web site for maui menus in
www.mauimenusonline.com

We were just there last week.
I forgot to mention, not far from Kihei
a few miles south is The Shops at Wailea, and within that complex they have a Cheeseburgers in Paradise.
That's sort of reasonbly priced.
There's a Hard Rock Cafe in Lahaina also
Kimos is nice too.

I second Brians recommendation of Da Kine Kitchen. Great, cheap eats. Lunch plates and salads.
Maui Tacos also good and cheap, and The Sports Page does have very good food, and it's a fun place, too.
Brian, thanks for reminding me of my stay in Kikei that didn't cost a fortune!

The best choices for inexpensive food are in Kihei. Da Kithcen is next to the Dennys on South Kihei Rd.We do take-out at Da Kitchen and eat on our lanai. There are always leftovers.

Pasta Place in Lahaina on corner across the street diagonal from the catholic church. Great food, inexpensive, friendly environment.
