Chatham Lodging Dilemma

We are planning a Cape Cod honeymoon for September 2003. We are torn between the following places to stay: Chatham Bars Inn, Captain's House Inn and Wequassett Inn. They all appear charming from their websites. Your feedback is much appreciated.

I have visited, and toured the rooms at Chatham Bars and Wequassett Inn and prefer the Wequassett. Both are beautiful places, although the latter feels more secluded and romantic. Good luck.

I agree with gyppielou, each place you mentioned is a great place to stay but, Wequassett may be the most romantic and secluded. They have many different buildings nestled in the pines, facing different directions with scenic paths leading to dining and recreational activities.

I have stayed at both the Wequassett and Chatham Bars, and like them both very much. I may have a slight preference for the Chatham Bars because it has an older, more charming, graceful style to it. Also, you can walk to town from the CB. The setting and service at both are lovely. From what I've heard about the Captain's House, it may be the most romantic of the three, although I think it offers fewer activities, and I don't believe it's right on the water like the other two. Congratulations!

I guess it really depends on what you're looking for. Chatham Bars Inn is more like a hotel or resort hotel. It is a full-service hotel with a bar, restaurant (I think) and is much larger than the Captain's House Inn.

I've only stayed at the Captain's House Inn, but it was lovely. I would eagerly stay there again. The whole place is beautifully done with gorgeous grounds and pretty rooms. Our room (in the Carriage House, I think) was one of only a couple in that building, so there was plenty of privacy. It had a little terrace/garden outside and a fireplace. Breakfast is served in the main house and is delicious -- usually more than one choice. They also have separate tables, so again, privacy is available. The staff is very eager to please -- the innkeepers usually hire college kids from Ireland and England -- and any wish is their command. They also lay out fresh-baked goodies like brownies or other treats in the afternoon and you can borrow movies for your in-room VCR.

Overall, we really enjoyed it.

I've been to Chatham Bars and Wequassett, and I prefer Chatham Bars. I just love the shingle style architecture plus I think they have the nicest spot on the beach. The view from the pool and beach restaurant is gorgeous. It's a beautiful, beautiful Inn, just thinking about it wants to make me drive there!

Be careful though, I have friends who go every year and they have to book at least a year in advance. It's very popular, but I see you're going in September so it should be more available.

Anonymous, This obsession you have with me makes me believe you are a borderline sociopath. I'd be upset if I didn't feel so sorry for you.

You are the reason no one should use a real email address.

Good to see you posting once again, Nina. I am assuming it was a technical problem afterall. You probably know me - like you, I'd never use a real name or address, given the weird ones who post. Just a few, but enough.

Hi Deanne - Sounds like you can't go wrong with any choice. I've only stayed at the Captain's House Inn. While I agree it was cozy and the hosts were lovely, I felt like we overpaid. It's not what I would picture for a honeymoon.

My wife and I went to the Cape for our honeymoon. Loved it. Chatham was great and so were the people. I would recommend that you stay in a B&B. We stayed at the Old Harbour Inn.

Nice to hear mostly good stuff about the Chatham Bars Inn. We're staying there overnight in June.

Chatham is a great town on CC. I go every year. You have to decide what kind of experience you are looking for on your honeymoon though. An intimate inn (Capts House) or a resort (CBI). They are all fantatstic properties - but they are different. I have stayed at the Capt House - loved it. You won't go wrong no matter which one you choose.
