It hasn't been open that long so I doubt you'll get too many opinions.
The location is fantastic and I hope the food lives up to the view! Unfortunately, that isn't usually the case but I have high hopes for the Newton family to do this restaurant right.

I agree with GoTravel--the view is great but the food...not so much. Also didn't like the ambiance too much...very loud due to the high open ceiling and no acoustical tiles to absorb the noise. I live in Charleston and a personal fav restaurant is Hank's on Hayne (off the Market) - www.hanksseafoodrestaurant.com. If that's a little too pricey for you, a lot of folks seem to like Hyman's on Meeting - there's always lines there - I haven't eaten there in quite some time as the last few times I went, it was just more and more disappointing as far as service and quality of food...perhaps that has changed. Another fav restaurant is Poogan's Porch (you've probably seen several other postings saying the same). Its on Queen Street in an old house supposedly haunted. They have a fabulous brunch (just added many new items to the menu - my family and I go there every few weeks) and their fried chicken salad is yummy! If you go, ask for a table in the back room...much nicer than the front room. Website is www.poogansporch.com. Enjoy your visit to Charleston!

Dear travgirl...thanks for the advice. We are planning to eat dinner on a Sunday evening with a large party (12 or so) to celebrate my parents' 50th anniversary....several small children and several that are hearing-challenged will be included in the group. If Fleet Landing is loud, that would cover the kids but not the audible issues. I had wondered if Hanks would be inappropriate for the entire group early in the evening...have eaten at Hymans and would only go back if nothing else suited....also Poogan's Porch...I think we just ordered wrong there but my children aren't too interested in returning there; altho the ghost would appeal to the younger boys in the group. If you know of anything else downtown that you would suggest I check out, let me know!!

Dear ausc59, first congrats to your parents for 50 years! I think Hank's would be totally appropriate for your party (just make ressies in advance). Another place that would be quite nice is 39 Rue de Jean (39 John Street - just off Upper King). Given the special occassion, you may also want to think about Carolina's -- it is the only restaurant South of Broad. Don't be put off by the price listed on this site of over $22 - they have entrees much lower than that.

I'm also from Charleston and ditto on Hank's. It's very very good!! Some of my favorite downtown restaurants when I go visit my folks are Peninsula Grill on Market Street, Blossom Cafe on East Bay Street and Cypress (also on East Bay). I also love High Cotton. If you want to cross the bridge and check out Mt. Pleasant, I recommend the Old Village Post House, with is owned by High Cotton, with a more casual feel.
