I really like the Doubletree. The location is excellent. The building is on the corner of Church Street and North Market but the hotel entrance is on Church Street.
North Market and South Market are divided by the Slave Market (slaves were not sold there but the Market is where any servants did their shopping).

At that rate another vote for the Charleston Place!
A great property in an extremely good location.
They have a small, but lovely rooftop pool for unwinding in the evenings after strolling the streets!

If you can get Charleston Place at that rate that would be my choice too.
But if not, I'd try Mills House. A very nice property and often they have really good rates - most rooms are under $150 and winter/last minute specials could be under $100.

I too would also reccomend Charleston Place. GREAT hotel!
But my second reccomendation would be the Renaissance Historic District. It's a nice upscale property with a premier location.
For a little less in cost check out the Holiday Inn Historic District. Does not carry the prestige of the Renaissance or Charleston Place but offers nice amenities and clean comfortable rooms with a few extra luxuries you don't often find at Holiday Inns.
One place that I would NOT reccomend is the Courtyard DT. Just returned from there and was not pleased at all. Bad staff, poor rooms, and not the greatest location.

We just stayed at the Hampton Inn Historic District on Meeting St. across from the Visitor Center. It is a little further north than some of the others but we walked all over Charleston, down to the Battery and up King St. shopping area, etc. The advantage of it being a little further up is the cost is a little less. We paid $90 dollars/night and this hotel had a great breakfast and nice rooms.
