In lieu of hotels I would look at the B & B's/Inns.

Wood fireplace and room service? I'm guessing that will be a tough combination. I'd think insurance issues would keep hotels/inns from allowing a wood burning fireplace, and you won't get room service in home or condo rentals that may have a wood-burning fireplace. Maybe a b&b like SAnParis2 suggests?

The Vendue Inn has fireplaces, but I'm not sure if they're gas or wood. I'm thinking they are gas, but it may be worth investigating. The carriage house at the William Aiken house may also have a fireplace, but I'm not sure on that one. I think the Vendue may be your best shot... Good Luck!

Try Two Meeting Street Inn. They may have them.

It looks like Vendue Inn and the Harborview Inn both have working fireplaces, though I would be they're gas. I think both of these properties have room service. The Governor's House B&B, Fulton Lane Inn and French Quarter Inn all indicate they have fireplaces. Give them a call about room service. For a weekend, I'd stay downtown not at the beach since dining, strolling, exploring will be right there. All of the above places are well located for a visit to Charleston.

I would think that a working wood fire in a hotel would be against fire laws (which are generally very strict for hotels). Every one I've seen has been gas - except in B&Bs - which have so few rooms they are generally under other rules.
