Chaperoning a day trip to NYC

I'm chaperoning a day trip to NYC. We have plans to take a ferry to Statue of Liberty and then "free time in NYC". The students are high school age and we don't need to shadow them, so I will have some free time and wonder if anyone has any different, yet quick ideas of something I could do with my time. I am thinking that our bus will park somewhere in lower Manhattan.

Lower Manhattan and the Financial District is the most historical and fascinating (IMHO) part of NYC.

Check this out for lots of freebies:

One suggestion - fit kids with either Lojack or a GPS monitor - guaranteed you will spend some time trying to locate the stragglers after "free time in NYC"

gail: I thought the same thing when we did this before. I was kind of anxious about letting them loose in the "big city". They all kind of stuck together and didn't wander far from the bus. We made it back home safely and everyone accounted for.
