Casual, moderately priced restaurant in the French Quarter?
I know New Orleans pretty well - lived there as a kid and visited MANY times. DH and I are making a quick trip next month and looking for a relatively inexpensive, casual restaurant in the French Quarter for dinner on a Sunday night (some places are closed Sundays).
Already planning on going to Acme (considering Felix's since we've never been there). I know Port of Call is popular but we don't go to New Orleans for burgers. I have checked the popular travel/food websites, but I was wondering if there might be a new restaurant that may not have made it to the top of all of the "best of" lists that I may be missing? We've been to Gumbo Shop and are not interested in going there (it way okay, but not great). Considered EAT and Irene's but they are both closed Sundays! Any suggestions?
Thanks!!

Do you mean casual, as in "doesn't take reservations", or casual, as it you can go in shorts and a t-shirt? We ate at Domenica a couple of weeks ago - needed reservations, but on the casual side (I wore slacks and a decent top, but there were lots of people in more casual clothes -- it's not a white-tablecloth restaurant). The food was great; I'd definitely go back (if there weren't so many great places to eat in NOLA). It's just on the other side of Canal St. from the FQ.

I loved Irene's when my husband and I went this last November, but it's relatively pricey, FYI. Too bad it's not open on Sundays. You are aware it's serving mostly Italian food with a few local-ish and French-inspired choices, right? No jambalaya here. I can tell you that it's GREAT, however.
We all liked Oceana Grill on Conti in the Quarter quite a bit. Not at all fancy-- in fact, it's a bit divey-looking-- but they serve up mass quantities of quite tasty Creole cuisine:

Bear in mind that my family is Creole/Cajun, so this is absolutely comfort food for us. We can accept really downmarket atmosphere as long as someone else is cooking and serving us, and the food is hot when it's supposed to be hot and cool when it's supposed to be cool, and doesn't give us food poisoning afterwards. Oh, and as long as there's some drinkable water, wine and/or liquor around.
Enjoy yourselves!
