Hi Lizzie, We've always had a great experience in Room 108 at the Tally Ho. The room is spacious with a beautiful view and deck; decor is p basic but spacious with a fireplace and spacious bathroom.
The wonderful thing about Tally Ho is that it is steps from the main street (coffee, restaurants, library, shops, etc) and steps to the ocean...you can hear the crashing of the waves from your room. This is really a gem in my opinion. The staff is very nice and the housekeeping is very thorough. I also found the bed to be comfortable.

One more thing about the TPI is that they have binoculars for you to borrow which we took full advantage of! The late 12 pm check out is great too & we actually didn't check out till that time as we were so enjoying the views & relaxation time.

Lizzie,
Since he doesn't like it here you may want to try L'Auberge which is a block away from the Tally Ho. Make sure if you decide to stay at L'Auberge that you get a top floor room as it can be very noisy on the first floors.
If I were you I would decide against P.G. as it doesn't have the same charm as Carmel plus parking can be very difficult in Carmel.

If it is their 1st time to the area, I'd suggest Carmel. Although I just spent a weekend in Pacific Grove and loved it. I'm not a newbie to either town as a visitor. FYI, the Seven Gables looks great to me from the outside. My friend who lives in PG, took a tour of the inn and said it was very lovely inside..

I'm also thinking about booking a room at the Seven Gables Inn for our Anniversary in August. It's hard to pick between the Breakers room in the Main House, or the Seal Rock room in the Beach House. The Seal Rock room seems to have a great view. However does anyone stay in that room before and know if noise in the morning is an issue from the breakfast being served downstairs ? Is the Seal Rock room a lot smaller compared to the Breakers room? For the Breakers room I'm concerned about the bathroom that has shower only and low ceiling.
We've tried Passionfish before and was not a Wow experience for us. Any good restaurant for Anniversay in PG?
Also, is Highlands Inn and Pacific Edge Restaurant any good?

We have enjoyed many nice stays at the Highland's Inn and our meal at Pacific's Edge a few weeks ago was very nice, we were able to catch the sunset from our table, the views, food, service are top-notch at Pacific's Edge. ***kim***
