We are four adults. We are staying in Florida for two weeks, relaxing and taking some day trips (not more than an hour away). Can we get away with an economy size car or will that be too uncomfortable? And will we get four people's luggage into the trunk? thank you.

E-Z Car Rental has some really good rates on full-size cars in Florida - we've used them twice before and will again in a few days. You might want to check with them and maybe not have to worry about squeezing into small seats.

My wife and I plus our two kids had an 'economy' car (2 door Chevy Cavalier) for a week in Orlando. Wr took it down to Cape Canaveral and a few other day trips. It was OK with the kids, but would have been pretty tight with four adults. I think a four door economy car might be a bit better.

I doubt you'd get four people's luggage (for a two week stay) in the trunk. When leaving Orlando, we had to make two trips to the airport, dropping off my wife and daughter and their bags, then returing with my son to the villa to get the rest of the bags.

As ccolor says, I'd consider paying a few more bucks for a larger vehicle.

Thanks. I've never heard of E-Z Car Rental. Do you take a shuttle to them at the Tampa airport, would you know? They seem to have a good rate of $329 for two weeks for a mid-size car - does that seem like a good rate?

Sorry - we haven't used them from Tampa, just Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale. Their website has a lot of information about locations (and it looks like you would pick up your car up at the airport and return them off site). I don't know about prices for that length of time, we ended up with a price of only $15.00+ for a full size car but I've been checking the prices for a couple months and had that rate before December. Good luck to you - it seems like car rental prices are extreme right now!

Unless you're really light packers I doubt you would get 2 weeks luggage for 4 people in the trunk of a small car. And the two in the back seat might be quite squished - unless they are both petite. (I have a compact car and the back seat is really good only for childen and packages.)

Back seat of econnomy car is torture for adults. No way luggage would fit in trunk.

LOL, you must pack a lot lighter than we do, we can't get luggage for two people in the trunk of a full size car for only one week in FL. Good luck!

Pay a little more for a larger car and be comfortable. Better safe than sorry. I think E-Z Car Rental is only in Orlando and Ft. Lauderdale, but I could be mistaken.

To give you an idea of space.... I have a Honda Accord (2004) and got 3 adults and two children with all their luggage into it fairly comfortably. I'd look for a vehicle about the size of a Dodge Intrepid or similar size.

For what it's worth ... Florida is very friendly towards big cars. Lots of good sized parking spaces, especially compared to big cities like new York and, in Canada, Toronto and Montreal.

While I usually drive small or smallish cars in Canada, I find I'm very happy with Crown Victorias and even Lincolns. They are easy enough to deal with in the traffic.

Plus the extra space is worth the extra money.

BAK.... thanks for the belly laugh! You have to understand that in Florida the Crown Vics and Lincolns are mostly driven by the retirees. I wonder if the cities made larger parking spaces for all the large cars driven by older people??? Food for thought.
