Car rental in Kauai

I know that there are a million places for car rentals. Just wondering if anyone has a great low-price suggestion for car rental in Kauai in May 2006 (website, rental company)? We aren't looking for huge or fancy...just something to get from point A to point B. My husband has been to Kauai and says that parking spots are on the small side.

We're going to Kauai in April and I used the Costco website and discount to rent a car from Alamo. I have found Alamo to be the cheapest on Kauai. However, once you reserve your car keep checking the rates before you go, they can fluctuate and our price went down another $50.00 so I cancelled my reservation and rebooked at the lower rate. Also the discount through the Entertainment book website is about the same as Costco. If you bid on Priceline they have very low prices, but you have to prepay if your price is accepted. Good luck.

bizzb, you are absolutely right about Alamo and Costco and checking rates. The other good thing about the Costco rate is that the second driver is free otherwise you need to pay something like $7/day. But I've found that service is sometimes bad and I've had trouble with coupons. So you do get what you pay for.

Check out www.rentalcodes.com. All of the major agencies are listed in addition to the coupons and specials that are out there. I was able to put together some good rates for this summer on the three islands on our itinerary.

I n ever had problem parking.

If you want a super cheap car, call Island Cars at (808) 246-6000. They are not at the airport but they'll came get you; it is nearby. I am told you can rent a total heap from them for cheap that has the added bonus of not looking like a rental car so no one will break into it. I plan to do just that on my next visit.
