Car rental discount codes
Where I can find car rental discount codes? I have rented through Hotwire and been pleased, but some people who post on this board say they can get a better rate direct with the car rental company using a discount code. I'm not sure where to look to find these codes.

Sometimes using a discount code will require you to show a membership card or I.D. when you pickup the car, so be careful.

I recently joined Costco, but found all the rentals I checked offered less of a discount that I was finding from the same companies with the codes from www.rentalcars.com
I also had an odd thing happened. I submitted a request for a car in California on rentalcars.com with a code that wouldn't still be in effect when I get the car (5 months from now). The quote even came back as "code not valid". Yet the quote was even lower than what the code said I'd get. I called (Dollar in this case) since I was concerned that the confirmation even said "invalid promotion code", but he assured me that the rate I was quoted would still be good since that's the rate on the confirmation. I'm getting a one way rental for 9 days for a total of $171.34 with taxes and fees included. That's less than $20 a day total!!
