Captiva island
We are flying into Ft. Myers and staying at South Seas Resort for a week. We love to lay on the beach all day and fine dine in the evening. Knowing this, should we rent a car from the airport and rent for the whole week? Any suggestions on a company to rent from? Should we rent a car at the airport and return it at the resort and walk or get a ride to the restaurants? How about golf cart rentals, where can you ride them? We love to ride bikes. Where should we rent and ride them to? Not meaning we will ride them to dinner!!
Thanks for any help

Car rentals are pretty cheap in Florida. We have the best luck with Dollar.
I'm not sure if you can return a car to South Seas Plantation. If you really don't plan to leave the resort at all for a week though, it does seem kind of silly to rent a car for the full week. But I can't imagine a whole week without going some places, particularly to Sanibel. I'd feel stuck without a car -- but maybe that's just me.
I do know I've seen people being picked up at the airport by reps from South Seas Plantation -- have you checked on their availability for airport transfer?

We have used Dollar & National car rentals.Florida is one of the cheapest places in the nation to rent cars. You can get them right at the airport. I think you will really miss out on the great restaurants on Sanibel & the shoppes, and different beaches(and seashells). We usually stay on Sanibel & venture to Captiva & Fort Myers for a variety of experiences. Bikes can be rented from Billy's or Finnmore's on Sanibel.Biking is so much easier on Sanibel(bike paths). However, on Captiva the roads are narrow & it is harder to stay out of the traffic's way.If you choose not to rent a car there are airport transfer companies. Hope you enjoy Captiva.(Especially the sunsets at The Mucky Duck).

I would definitely rent a car. Captiva is not all that "walkable" (there are no sidewalks and few streetlights...gets REALLY dark at night), and cabs are practicaly nonexistent. There are lots of fun restaurants and cool boutiques and galleries on San-Cap that you'll probably want to check out...not to mention taking a nice drive around the Ding Darling Wildlife Refuge (go early in the morning or around sunset for the best wildlife viewing). I have stayed on Captiva many times (including at SSP), and would've felt really stuck with no vehicle. The SSP food is not bad, but nor is it the best the islands have to offer.

Thanks for the info. I guess I was thinking there would be more accessible transportation ie. trolley, cabs. This is a do nothing vacation!!Day time we are just hanging on the beach so dinner is the only time we need a car. We will definitely rent a car to explore the island's restaurants. Thanks.
