Ok, my husband and I have decided that we would probably like to stay in Cape May in July for 2 nights. I've been researching hotels on the internet and so many seem to have a minimum weekend night stay. We'd like to be within walking distance of the beach (but not necessarily on the beach) and would like a clean, affordable hotel (as in, less than $150 per night). Is this too much to ask for? Please send suggetions my way. Thanks!

We've spent a few very enjoyable weekends in Cape May (usually in "shoulder season" May or Sept/October). I think the Capri Motel would fit. Its not fancy but its clean, on the beach and just a few blocks down from the boardwalk area, so its well within walking distance of most of town.

travelingaround: be careful; some of the hotels on and across the street from the beach are really old and skanky (my 11 yr old daughter's term). You are right to get a recommendation. The last one we stayed in was ok in the brocure and website but sort of grossed us out (at $190 a night too).

Cape May is full of very nice B&Bs if you like that option. Don't know if they'd have the same minimum requirements for weekends.

Go up the beach a little to Wildwood, there is a nice Days Inn, with an apartment like set up just across from the boardwalk, it is very near the convention center. Has a second floor pool and great sunrise views. They vaccuum the beaches each AM here and we ordered an amazing pizza and had it delivered to the room.

I usually go down to Cape May 2-3 times a year and stay in bed and breakfasts. While they can be a bit pricier, they usually are lovely and some even have bicycles that you can use if you enjoy that sort of thing to go about town. Not to knock Wildwood, but Cape May is a much nicer town, quieter town to stay in. Don't know your age group, but Wildwood to me seems for a younger group of people with children. This is only my opinion. I have stayed at the Duke of Windsor, Inn at 22 Jackson, John F. Craig House, Humphrey Hughes and the Queen Victoria, just to name a few. All were very nice B&B's, but a bit closer to the $200 mark, including breakfast and afternoon tea. Still if you can splurge a little more, I think you'd enjoy a B&B more than a hotel, guess it depends on what you like. Cape May is an expensive vacation town but an enjoyable one. Realize your post is a month old but if you are still looking, perhaps this might help.
