Just wanted to update those who made suggestions or were interested... we made the trip to Cape Cod and the timeshare was right on the beach and my daughter and I both loved Fallmouth. Unfortunately the weather was GORGEOUSE and the leaves started turning/falling at whatever college we visited. We put 2000 miles on the rental car and I was amazed at how light the traffic is (at least compared to SoCal!) And at how nice the drivers are - the first several times a driver coming the other way slowed down so I could turn in front of them, I thought they were aiming for me-lol! They waved frantically until I finally understood they were yielding for me. Top college choices were coincidentally also some of the most beautiful - Quinnipiac, Bryant, So New Hampshire, and Salisbury. We really enjoyed dining at Coonasett Inn (lobster risotto-YUM!), Firefly, Liam Maguires, and the ice cream at Ben & Bill's. (Daughter was crushed it wasn't open every night when we got back.) Thanks to all for the suggestions and tips!

Thanks for the update. I'm glad (?) you had such nice weather & foliage. Maybe you have to go back to visit in February, so she gets the real New England college experience.

Mass. drivers = nice? Hmmm. Things must have changed in the years I've been gone .

HI--sounds like you might have stayed at our timeshare, Beachside Village, in Falmouth. Glad you liked the Cape. I have to disagree w/Dreamer's comment about MA drivers. After 30+ years here, I would not use the term "nice" but they are often logical, in that they will yield the right of way to the person who most needs it, and that will make the traffic flow more efficiently. The supposedly "polite" midwesterners--my native land--will mow you down if they have the right of way and you do not cede it to them...I think MA drivers are skillful and DS who now lives in CA is always struck by how grateful he is that he learned his driving skills in MA.
