Cape Cod Cottages
I'm looking for some place for a family of 10 (5 couples) to stay. We haven't vacationed in Cape Cod before so I'm open to any suggestions. We'd like something right on the beach or as close as possible in the moderate price range. In the past we've stayed in cottages that slept 6 and then just rented extra rooms at the same hotel.
Any suggestions? Thoughts?

I have no idea what moderate is anymore, but I know we rented a cottage in Eastham some years ago. I cannot imagine anything that sleeps 10 being moderate though..
Try this ( we have friends in NY who have several children )

We have rented a cottage(house really) in Orleans that is a very short walk down a path to Nauset Beach. There is also a house right across the street from the 1 we rent. Each house sleeps 6-8 people, and the price during peak weeks is $1800/wk. We found it thru weneedavacation.com. If you need more info let me know, and I will give you the real estate agents name.

we stayed at a great place in Dennisport that was a block from the beach and had indoor/outdoor pool and sauna - with your number of people, you would probably have to rent two cabins - we loved it there!

Dave099, you could walk to the beach, it was 5 minutes away - also an easy drive - great beach, with bathrooms, playground and snack bar - we really loved the place we stayed and totally intend to do it again - let us know what you picked.

House rentals are a huge business on Cape Cod, and the Cape itself is quite large, with all kinds of communities. Chatham isn't Provincetown, etc. Different rental agencies specialize in different towns. My family has rented houses (not on the beach or on the sound--hard to find something moderate there, although there are some very simple places if you're not fussy)in Brewster through Atlantic Rentals, www.capecodrentals.com, which covers a number of towns. You should definitely take a quick look at Web sites, magazines, or guides to see where you'd want to rent; the towns have different personalities.

The Cross Rip/Corsair Oceanfront resort in Dennisport has some houses that can accomodate 10 people without feeling crowded.

weneedavacation.com, kinlingrover.com, and therealestatecompany.com are good web site to look at.
At this point in time, you're going to be really lucky to have much choice. We've rented in Orleans for sevn years and always signed our lease by Oct or Nov. Many houses are takn by repeat renters. Once you've done a web sarch gt on the phone to a few offices and se what they can offer.
One more thing, "moderate price range" and on the beach don;t go together on the cape!!

I have been a long time traveler to the Cape, first with my parents, now with my husband. We use to stay at Great Island Ocean Club ( I dont have the site name)in West Yarmouth, big 3 bedrm homes w/ dishwashers, washing machines on the beach. Very nice, no maid svc. Now we stay at Seaside www.seasidecapecod.com in South Yarmouth, (we have no children), so these are very small, "cottagey" real Cape homes directly on the beach, maid svc every day. Some have 2 bedrooms, but no a/c. I also know of Green Harbor http://www.greenharborresort.com/(W. Yarmouth or could be Hyannis). These are very nice, too, a/c etc..could sleep more than 4. Also, the Breakwaters http://www.capecod.com/breakwaters in Hyannis are a nice complex on the beach. Try capecod.com for info. Good Luck!

You should also check out www.CapeCodRentals.Net. Leighton Realty Rentals has lots of vacation rentals and you can view a virtual tour for all of them on their website.

Another vote for Great Island Ocean Club. You might have to rent two homes; however, the second house (when you open the link) does sleep 12.
We've stayed her for the past few summers and just love it. Yes, it's on the busier part of the cape. But the beach is fantastic, the grounds are just beautiful. It's a gated community with a long, private beach. Close to everything.
