Thinking of spending Feb 2015 in California. I have opportunity to stay at Newport Beach Marriott timeshare for 2 weeks. Not sure if I want to stay there that long. Will be traveling alone. Am an avid photographer. Not sure where I want to go. It's difficult to advise without more info so please, ask questions. Maybe that will get me heading in a direction.

I had a dream consulting client in the East Bay who had a big meeting late in February or early in March.

Those of us from the East Coast couldn't wait to get there. It was Spring, just two months early for us.

Newport Beach is very nice but for sure you will need a car. We sometimes get rain in February and are hoping for more after a few years of drought.

An avid photographer of what type of subjects? Scenery/nature, people, animals, historical sites, architecture...?

Do you want to stay in the timeshare the entire time or make a couple of trips?

Do you want to get to Northern California? Even in a normal winter ( which we haven't had in a few years) there can be a two week window opening in the middle of February of wonderful, lovely weather that feels a lot like spring.

Yosemite Valley in the snow is stunning.

Considering that January rain in So Cal would mean blooms in the desert, I found this:

Imperial Valley would be a bit over 3 hours from Laguna Beach.
Anza Borrego about 2.5 hours
Death Valley about 5 hours
Coachella Valley under 2 hours

aqapanthus - Do you plan on renting a car? You will sure need one to get around from the timeshare to anywhere else. Well, there are buses but you are a slave to where they go and their timetable.

You could spend a week there and a week in somewhere like San Diego ... or ... ?? It depends on if you'll have a car and what you want to see and do. So you need to be more specific.
