I am thinking about posting this question on a seperate thread, but maybe someone here can answer. DH and I will be spending Thanksgiving day in Houston, and we were looking for a short road trip for the remainder of the weekend. Under normal circumstances I would consider NO, as it's not very far from Houston. But is it OK to go there yet?

I fully agree with you, GoTravel, and helping the local economy is one of the many reasons I would love to go to NO. But my concern is whether or not the hotels, restaurants and tourist sites will be open. I don't expect everything to be up and running so soon, but is there enough going to fill a weekend?

PM, by Thanksgiving I truly think there will be MORE than enough going on and open to fill your weekend. Please come!! Feel free to check with me as it gets closer to make sure, but at this point, I'd say it's a safe bet. I returned permanently to my home in the French Quarter almost 3 weeks ago, and things are getting more and more like normal every day.

Kal, thanks for sharing that great news. Ummmmm.....beignets!!! i swear, there were more birds hovering around waiting for crumbs, than there were chickens on Kauai!!
it really IS great news. Was just putting together photo album of trip to NO last April (yes, I'm a prcrastinator) and feeling very sentimental about those pix of me and the girls, the powdered sugar, and the birds, wondering when it would open again, if ever.
Hurrayyy for Cafe du Monde and NOLA!!

Great news!!! I am sitting here in cold and damp Wales, and just listened to my old friend Chef Paul's interview on Fodor's. The background music - a jazz band - brought back so many nice memories of time in New Orleans and his hometown Opelousas, LA.
