Cab/limo from MacArthur Airport - Long Island

I'm trying to figure out any cost savings between airlines when you factor in tranportation to Manhattan. Fares on Southwest are really good, but I need to know what I'm looking at in terms of cab or limo fare from the airport.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Good grief don't fly Southwest to MacArthur if your destination is Manhattan.

With traffic, it could easily take 3 hours to get into Manhattan.

Fly into LGA (preferably) or JFK/EWR.

Southwest finds fuselage cracks in four aircraft

Southwest Airlines Co. said Thursday that it had to repair four of the 38 planes grounded earlier this week after an internal investigation revealed the planes hadn't been properly inspected.

Thanks Gekko, I wasn't aware it was that long of a drive. Regarding Southwest, I'm aware of the planes in question, and quite honestly that has ZERO impact on my decision to continue using them as my primary carrier. In my mind they're still the most effective and operationally sound airline going...period.

I promise you this issue is not limited to Southwest Airlines, regardless if it's made the news yet or not. You'd be surprised how many flights you have likely boarded with similar problems that were known to the company. Again, Southwest is still the most effective and operationally sound airline going.

Islip is great for people who live on Long Island or if you happen to have a free ticket on Southwest. A cab/limo will easily cost $100+ each way to/from Manhattan.

Most people would use the shuttle bus from airport to Ronkonkoma train station ($5/person) and then the Long Island Railroad into Penn station.

3 hrs. by cab is an overstatement.

Expect to pay from $100 to $150 for a private car service from MacArthur Airport to Manhattan. Tolls and gratuity are additional. The trip will take at least 90 minutes if there is absolutely no traffic, that can easily double in times of peak traffic.

And that's just one-way, of course.

It's absolutely crazy to fly into Islip if your destination is Manhattan.

A clueless friend of mine once booked through Islip. He left midtown 5 hours before his flight and STILL missed his plane out.

Agree Islip is fine if you live on LI - otherwise just way too much of a pain in the butt. Car service will be $125 to $150 with tip and toll. Driving is a minimum of 2 hours (if rush hour or heavy traffic will be more).

Public transit is much cheaper - but can easily take 3 hours - since the trains to/fro Ronkonkoma run once per hour. Then you have to get a cab or shuttle bus - every 30 minutes - to the airport.

I wouldn't use it even if the tickets were free.
