Cab from JFK to Manhattan

I'm planning on flying into JFK and wanted to know what I'm likely to pay for a cab from JFK to Manhattan? thanks

The required minimum is $35, but then with tolls and tip it will be at least $50 depending on where you are going in NYC. That is really based on going to somewhere in Midtown.

Abby -- I'm not sure how you calculated that. The rate is not a "minimum" -- it's a flat rate. There is now a flat rate of $35 from JFK to anywhere in Manhattan (it's not the same from Manhattan to JFK -- that's on the meter). Then you add tolls and tip. Toll is likely to be $3.50 (or has it gone up to $4 already?) and a tip on top of that of $5 or so gives you a certain fare of $43.50, not $50.

Sorry, flat, minimum, same difference. I have always paid around $50. Perhaps I tip more than others. In any case, better to be prepared with a little more money than not having enough.

I usually pay $45 to $50, depending upon the amount of luggage I have, and how helpful the driver is.

I think there is a bus that goes straight from JFK to Grand Central Station in Manhattan. From there you can get a taxi to your hotel. This would be a lot less expensive than taking a taxi all the way.

Sorry Abby, I wasn't trying to be difficult. I just didn't want alaric to think that the fare varies depending on where you go in Manhattan, like it would if you were on the meter. We all agree that the fare from JFK to any point in Manhattan is a set $35. Add to that a set toll which, I think, is still $3.50. The tip is what varies by person.

HTH, alaric!

Here is a website with information on transportation from JFK into Manhattan. The cab will be $35 flat rate + tolls.

Did I see a post here recently that mentioned calling a private car service in Manhattan for a trip to JFK that was cheaper than a regular taxi? Or did I make that one up?

Carmel limo, www.carmellimo.com
has a rate of $37, but on their website you can print a coupon for $3 off any ride.

Patrick,

I always use New Family car service for the return trip to JFK, and it comes out about the same as the cab I take into the city. Roughly $50.

Bridge tolls depend on the bridge and direction. From JFK to Manhattan there is no toll on the 59th street bridge. What is the average meter fair from Manhattan (upper East side) to JFK, anybody venture a guess?
