Burlington VT - 2 night stop, recommended itinerary
After spending a few days in NYC and Boston we are picking up a hire car and doing an 8 day tour - with all the accommodation now booked.
It's a very short time to cover a lot of ground. I am trying to identify the 'must sees' preferably with some wet and dry options.
We will probably major on scenery and sights, add in a small touch of culture and avoid spending too long shopping (but don't tell my wife and daughter).
Looking at the map a circular tour towards the top of Lake Champlain (is it worth crossing the border into Canada?) and taking in Stowe might be achievable in a day. Is that too ambitious? Would it be better done clockwise or anti-clockwise?
Also worth noting that on the expenditure scale we are usually somewhere between low budget and cheapskate but will fork out if it's really worth it.
Apologies for opening several threads on this but I thought it best to try and be specific rather than cover the whole tour in one.
Thanks in advance
Rick

I don't think anyone will recommend crossing into Canada for the short amount of time. Church St shopping in Burlington is fun. Expect to make a lot of stops between Montpelier and Stowe since you can take the Ben and Jerry's tour, the shops all seem to have lots of cheese samples, try the wine sampling at Cold Hollw Cider Mill, and visit craft shops. Shopping at a Vermont Country Store is fun. Check local VT news to find out what is going on. There might be a quilt show, music, plays, etc. There will be a free Vermont guide at the tourist info places. This will list events. It is probably too early in the year and too expensive on your pocketbook to tour Ausable Chasm across Lake Champlain in NY. You can also tour Cabot Cheese.

You can have a low price meal of great quality at the Culinary Institute Of America in Burlington. I believe they serve lunch or dinner, and they do have a web site. This is a school for chefs in training, and the food is usually very good.

Thank you - great info. It's a shame we only have a day for all this.
The route I am looking at on the map is to head north using the 7 or the 2, then east to Enosburg Falls and south on the 108 to Stowe.
Have looked at the menu for the Culinary Institute - very nice.
