Budget meals with kids
I'm chaperoning 5th graders on a trip to Washington, DC. Leaving Tuesday, so will only be able to read this tonight or tomorrow. But anyway, if anyone is reading this, I'm wondering the best cheap places to take kids (fast food, pizza, etc.) near 1) the National Mall, and 2) the Zoo. Thanks in advance.

Cindy,
There are cafeterias at most of the museums on the National Mall all of which are appropriate for a class of 5th graders in terms of menu and seating capacity.
If you are touring the Capitol bldg., then definately take your class to eat at one of the congressional office bldg. cafeterias - great food and rock bottom (tax payer subsidized) prices.
The only food at the zoo is horrible and horribly overpriced - if you can figure out a way to pack picnics (from a deli, chai sandwhich shop or grocery near your hotel), there are plenty of picnic tables to eat at.
