Brunch in New York

I will be in NY for a few days mid October with my mother, can anyone recommend a good brunch in the city on a Sunday? I have heard that many hotels offer brunch, can anyone dine here for brunch or just hotel guests? We are looking to spend no more than $40 pp. Thanks in advance!

Blue Ribbon Bakery and The Cupping Room are my two favorites.

Get the cream cheese and walnut stuffed french toast.

What neighborhood would you prefer? Tons of good brunch places all over the city. Bubby's is a neighborhood place in Tribeca. Kitchenette is loud but good (two brunches - one in Tribeca, the other uptown on Amsterdam and 122nd St). Good Enough to Eat, Amsterdam in the 80's, has good breakfast/brunch food, but expect a line on Sundays. Many people like Sarabeth's - there are several branches. And many of the 3 and 4 star restaurants also serve weekend brunch. Do you have some specific area or type of food in mind? Also fun is to eat brunch/lunch/tea at Tea & Sympathy. Check out Citysearch and look at all the options.

Spectacular brunch buffet at Brasserie 8 1/2. Elegant one at Aquavit.

You don't have to be a guest at a hotel to dine in their restaurant. The only hotel brunch I know of that might be worth going out of your way for is at Cafe Botanica in the Essex House on Central Park South.

Agree with many of the suggestions here but they really range form casual (Bubby's, Sarabeth's) to elegant (Aquavit). It would help to know either what area you'll be in or what sort of ambiance you want. Btw, $40 for brunch shouldn't be a problem almost anywhere as long as you don't drink too much

The acquavit is exceptional for a sunday Brunch and it is a little bit different. Scandanavian food. They have a great selection and very good deserts. It is under $40.
