Looking for a good place for breakfast at or near Hilton Hawaiian Village where we are staying. Have kids 1 1/2, 5 and 10. Don't want it to be too costly but doesn't have to be $2 either.

Many places at the Hilton, but you're not too far from a very notable breakfast place on Kalakaua near Ena rd called something like eggs and things. You can probably find a thousand lines of praise of it on the archives here...

I'm glad you suggested it, because I certainly would have. Lot's of delicious food: huge portions, and endless cups of Kona coffee...macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup...

Only open from 11pm at night til 2pm the following afternoon. Doesn't take credit cards or reservations (but the line moves fast.

Eggs & Things is over-rated and very expensive compared to other options. We were very disappointed when we visited last October. It also gets very crowded. Can't understand why this place gets the raves it does....frankly Denny's is at least as good an option and is less expensive.

Don't know if they're still around, but a few years ago, Wailana Coffee Shop across the street from Hilton Hawaiian Village was pretty good, and a few years prior to that, we used to go to Hau Tree Lanai almost right next to HHV.

Wailana is still there. The Hau Tree Lanai, however, is in the New Otani at the other end of Waikiki (about 2 miles). You can also go to Ala Moana Center, where they have McDonald's (I'm thinking of the kids) or Zippy's, which are inexpensive for breakfast.

They have a NY Deli on the grounds that is good for breakfast.

If you drive to Ward Center area by the theaters there is Big City Diner good for families.

Agree that Eggs and Things is highly overrated. I don't get it! Greasy eggs. Blah atmosphere.
Wailana--is that the place that is open really late? It was unexpectedly good a few yrs ago!
Also recommend Shore Bird at the Outrigger Reef, about a 5-10 minute walk along the beachside promenade from HHV. Much cheaper than the HHV's brekfast buffet. though not nearly aa bountiful, it is a low priced alternative.

I would recommend breakfast at Duke's. It came highly recommended for us, but we opted for the Shorebird and regret it to this day )-:

Inexpensive, just not good food selections or taste. Realize it could have been a bad day.

I second the recommendations for both the Wailana and the Shore Bird, both will be under $10/person. the Wailana is open 24 hours; it is on Ala Moana Blvd. The Shore Bird is open-air and right on the beach. You may not be able to get a table right next to the beach, but the atmospherre is still very nice. Coupons from the "best of O'ahu" magazines found on the street make it an even better deal. On previous trips we have found the food at both places to be very good.
