Breakfast in San Francisco?
Looking for some recommendations for breakfast...we are staying on Lombard, near Van Ness.
Also looking for a good taqueria.
Thanks so much!
So excited to be visiting for the first time!

From your hotel location you can easily walk to Chestnut Street or Union Street for breakfast. On Chestnut Street, Judy's is good. On Union and Steiner, Rose's Cafe makes an awesome breakfast pizza. On both Chestnut and Union, there is a Noah's NY Bagel, but I have to warn you (as a former NYC resident), there is nothing NY about the bagels besides the LES memorabilia in the store!
For a good taqueria, you should go to the Mission. I like La Taqueria on Mission & 24th-ish, La Cumbre on Valencia b/n 16th and 17th.
Ask both of these questions on chowhound.com and you'll get a lot of good recommendations.

You are also close to Russian Hill (Polk Street). I don't go there too often, so I don't have specific recommendations, but if you walk along Polk street starting at Union Street walking away from the water, you will find lots of eating options.

Mama's, on Washington Square Park (corner of Filbert & Stockton), is ultra-popular for a reason -- the food is incredible!
Don't be intimidated by the long line; it moves quickly and the breakfast is worth the wait.
(After breakfast, walk up the hill to Coit Tower to burn some of the calories.)

In case you're willing to stray far for you breakfast (and I mean about a 15-20 minute cab ride) and you're thinking of doing this on a weekend, then do yourselves a favor and go to the Ferry Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building.
I guarantee that the baked goods from ACME, the hot breakfast foods from the fine restaurants in the city that set up stalls in the area (Hayes Street Grill might still have their delicious soft-shell crab sandwich), downed with a cup of coffee from BlueBottle, the lovely view of the Bay and browsing along the fine foodie stores at the Ferry Building will make it worth your while.

WOW! Thanks for all the good advice...we have three mornings to try some of the suggestions...definitely Mama's and Bueva Vista. Have read about both of them. Have also heard about Judy's, so will check that one out, as well.
Thanks so much for the great info. Love going for breakfast...especially in a new city!

I would also second the Ferry Market; if not for breakfast (which IS an adventure in the best way!) then plan to spend a minimum of a couple of hours there sometime during your stay. In fact, you could pretty much have every meal there -- we had dinner at Slanted Door in June, and then went back to the market on Saturday a.m. for a roving breakfast/lunch, then shopped for a couple of hours before heading to Coit Tower. A perfect SF day!

My wife & I were in SF last fall and we ate breakfast 3 days in a row at The Home Plate, 2274 Lombard St near corner of Pierce St. The scones with raspberry butter that are served with all the breakfasts are worth a trip by themselves. We had good omelettes, pancakes and waffles. Plus there's lots of healthy options available for each meal (you can substitute turkey sausage or bacon, fruit instead of potatoes on the side, etc.)
