Breakfast in Midtown

Staying at Marriott Marquis. Tired of hotel food. Looking for a close breakfast place, bacon & eggs, omelettes, etc.

You could head for one of many quintessential Manhattan "coffee shops" for a cheap and fast breakfast - Red Flame Coffee Shop on 44th between 6th and 5th. For a more elegant breakfast, head for Gaby's at the Sofitel in the same block (for shorter walk from the Marriott, there's also an entrance from 45th). For something in-between, head for the restaurant in the Edison Hotel (can't think of the name at the moment) - restaurant entrance is on the 46th St. side between Broadway and 8th.

PS On a Sunday, breakfast (as opposed to brunch) at the Algonquin is fantastic. Menu (as opposed to buffet), reasonable prices, lovely service, really good food, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. They do serve breakfast every day, but you're not stuck with expensive brunch on Sunday. We love to stop here before heading home.

I like the Cosmic Coffee Shop on 7th at Columbus Circle. It has always reminded me of the old Saturday Nite Live skit with John Belushi screaming, "Cheeseburger, cheeseburger, cheesburger........no Coke...Pepsi..chips......."

We liked Rosen's...just around the corner from the Palace Hotel, which is just behind St. Patrick's.
