Branson/Ozarks Site for 50th Anniv. Celebration?

My parents will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this summer and just want a quiet weekend in a cabin or lodge with immediate family. There will be 5 adult couples and 3 children...half coming from Texas and half from around St. Louis. My folks aren't thrilled with Branson, but it seems like a place sort of in between to meet. Any ideas for great places to stay in Missouri...e.g. with several large cabins to rent, or an entire B&B we could rent out?

Big Cedar Lodge!! I've never stayed there but know people who love it and it has a fabulous reputation. There's a wide variety of accommodations, including cabins, so I'm sure you'll be able to find something suitable. I think the website is bigcedarlodge.com

Big ditto to SusanCS' rec.

Spent a week at Big Cedar this past Oct. and really enjoyed it. I'd take Mrs Kal back in a heartbeat.

The right amt of distance away from Branson so you can still see a show or 2 and be away from the traffic jams.

Absolutely do Big Cedar Lodge. If you can't get the info you need on their site go to bluegreenrentals.com
Also, do Dogwood Canyon while you are there even if you do end up staying in Branson.

Branson is nice, but a little more "elderly" than some of the couples and kids may want. They do have an amusement/historical park but you may be better off going to the Lake of the Ozarks, near Osage Beach. Depending on your price range, the Lodge of the Four Seasons is nice and so is Marriott Tan-tar-a resort. There are also lots of cool little hotels.

You can rent boats and jet skis. There is lots of shopping, including a huge outlet mall. There is a big park where you can hike and run around. Great place! Weekends are really busy and stay away during the holiday weekends like Memorial Day and the 4th. Lake is so crowded it becomes unsafe.

If you contact the Missouri tourism bureau they can send you some material. There are lots of condos for rent as well if you want to avoid a "hotel". have a great time and bring the sunscreen!

Just thought you'd like to know that I priced Big Cedar Lodge. In the summer they have a 3 night minimum. Just to house all of us in 3 cabins for 3 nights would be $4600 (food not included). For that we could send the folks to Europe for 10 days!
