Boutique (or other) hotels in SF

First off I want to say I have been reading posts on SF and have learned a lot about what (and what not) to see/eat/do..thank you!!

I am looking for a hotel recommendation. We will be staying for 2 nights in Jan.

At present my preference is in the Nob Hill area. However, the only hotel I found in our price range is the InterContinental.

What I am looking for is something nice, not too touristy, in a good (hip?) location.

Room size does not matter as we are from NY so anything will look big to us.
I would like something with big beds, nice bathtub etc. and great service from the hotel.

Price range: 130-170/night
So far I have on the list:
The Orchard
The Prescott
And the InterContinental.

Can any one give me feedback on these or make better suggestions??

Thanks so much in advance!!

Just rec'd one of those email advertisement specials for the Savoy Hotel, a small "boutique' style hotel in SF, nr Union Square/theater area. Check their web site and you'll see "packages" which are in your price range.
www.thesavoyhotel.com
There's also perhaps a special of $119 for deluxe queenbed room. Will try "digging thru" email trash bin and post here if i can find the "special."

GGi1, good news--the internet price I saw for the Savoy was $79/night!! There are few blackout dates.
Call the hotel at 1-800-227-4223 and ask for the Sherman's travel deal .

Have you considered Hotwire or Priceline?

By Intercontinental, you mean the Stanford Court, correct? That hotel is in a better location than the others and beautiful. The Prescott has very small rooms but they are elegant and above Postrio. Also, it's near Union Square so it is an easy walk to shopping. Stanford Court is on a hill. You'll have a steep walk, a cab drive or a cable car ride with a steep walk.
