Good grief Marilyn, I don't mean to laugh, but, but, well guess I am laughing. Not that a derailment is funny. Not at all.
It is just that everytime I am going anywhere there always "something" that happens right before the trip.
When I saw your response, well let's just say I really relate to your response. Take good care, and have a wonderful trip.

On October 28, the Acela bound from Boston towards NYC derailed near New Haven. Nobody was hurt, a few people were marooned in NYC overnight (too bad they didn't grab a Chinatown bus for $15), but everything's ok now.

Hi Marilyn, I just read your post; you must already be there by now. The Chinatown bus is really not bad at all, as it was suggested above. $15 one way, about 4 hours. I purchased the tickets online a week in advance: www.fungwahbus.com
I had also checked out the train from south station to Penn sta. This would be another option.
hope you had a nice trip.

Thanks, all. I did take the Acela, which was convenient and pleasant. However, there was some minor mechanical problem which caused us to be a half hour late (so much for the express part of the equation) and it was raining in NY so I had the pleasure of standing on a long taxi line outside Penn Station in the rain for 15 minutes.
It's good to know about the bus options, which I would certainly consider in the future. As always, fodorites are a wealth of information.

I wanted to add a comment for any future readers of this query. I work for a company that sells bus tickets online. We have many "chinatown" companies as well as more traditional carriers (Bonanza). We have a lot of carriers that serve Boston-NY.

With the train situation being what it is lately, you might want to consider the "Plush Bus" that runs from Boston's Back Bay Hilton to NYC. It was featured on Fodor's website a few days ago. The price is right for the services you receive. Here's the link: www.limoliner.com . I'm looking forward to trying this soon.
