Boston - the eliot suite or taj Boston?

In 30 sept for 2 nights my husband and I will stay on holidays in Boston before leaving to Cap Cod. We will have a car rented. Pse let me know which is the best hotel - The Eliot Suite or Taj Boston - talking about best place to stay, walking distance from restaurants and nice place, and the Hotel itself. Thanks in advance

As a local, I have not stayed in either hotel. Based on ambiance and location, however, I'd definitely pick the Taj. The Taj used to be the Ritz-Carlton, before R-C moved to a brand new bldg. The Taj is right across the street from the Public Gardens, and right on Newbury Street with high-end boutiques.

Eliot is at a rather busy intersection right on Mass Ave.

Both are within walking distance to DOZENS of restaurants.

Another vote for the Taj, great location.
I've not stayed there but I've had a drink in the bar and I think it's a more attractive hotel than the Eliot.

Friends have stayed at the Eliot and were given a room overlooking the trash! They didn't notice when they checked in at night and were greeted by this 'view' in the morning. They didn't complain or ask to be moved as it was too much hassle for them at that point but it colored my view of the hotel.

I'm another local.

You didn't say how the rates for the two hotels compared so I am curious about that factor.

The Taj -- what we knew as the Ritz Carlton for decades -- is a very lovely hotel in a prime location on the corner of Newbury Street and Arlington Street, across from the Public Garden. The Eliot is only 8 short blocks from it though, also in the Back Bay, and is in a very good location. I haven't stayed in either hotel in years, but when I stayed at the Eliot, it was in a beautiful suite with a lovely view of Commonwealth Avenue, not of trash (as above). There are good and poor views from both hotels.
