Boston: Student Travel
I'm a college student, and I'd like to go to Boston for spring break to look at schools and the city. I'm on a budget... any suggestions for hotels that have good value and good access to the downtown area? Thanks.

Hvae you decided which schools you'll look at? Many schools aren't exactlydowntown, but would require access on public transit. The more we know about your plans, the better advice we can give. When is your spring break?

Cambridge might be cheaper than downtown Boston, and it's an easy subway ride. Be sure to check Priceline. You might get something really cheap there - but beware the restrictions (i.e. no refunds, etc.).
Cambridge Gateway Inn (Cambridge) - Quite cheap and NOT FANCY, but very close to the T (subway).
Sheraton Commander Hotel (Cambridge) - Can sometimes be cheap. Close to T. In Harvard Square.
A Cambridge Cottage B&B - Not fancy like a real B&B. SOrt of like renting a room in someone's house. Cheap. Good.

you should also check with the school...I know from experience that schools sometimes offer discount accomidations...
I agree by checking the Cambridge area hotels...they are a bit cheaper, and the T ride is fast and easy...

Try looking at the Buckminster hotel. It is on Kenmore Square, right where Boston Univ begins, a block or so from Fenway Park and a convenient stop on the T (subway).
They have regular hotel rooms, rooms with shared bath and dorm type rooms. I've never stayed here, but I do stay across the street at a different hotel.
I know several BU parents and some students that have stayed and say it is a great budget hotel.
The location is perfect for exploring Boston. Lots of college-budget dining and entertainment all around due to BU and you can get to all the other Boston area colleges easily on the T or a bus.

Thank you for all who have responded with hotel suggestions! I am interested in looking at the big schools like Harvard, Boston U, Boston College, etc., so I think it would be best to find a hotel near a T station, since I probably won't have a car.
