Boston nightlife!!
I'll be visiting Boston the weekend of June 1st. Looking for decent hotel (2-3*)in a trendy area with lots to do! Any suggestions on bars with live music would be great (No Frat bars). I am a late 20's male traveling alone on business. Trendy/indie influences are my scene for the most part. Also, what are the chances of me getting tix to the Red Sox vs. Yankees game?

You'll be able to get into the game but you'll have to buy a ticket from a scalper for $1000.
I really liked Faneuil Hall a lot but it may be too touristy for you. My favorite place was that drink in salad bowl place.

We've never had a problem getting reasonably priced tickets (but wouldn't try when the Yankees are playing) by going to Fenway and waiting until after the game starts.

Johny Ds - Somerville- blues/rock/folk
Middle East -Cambridge - alt. rock
ZUZU is right next to Middle East
Ryles -Cambridge - Jazz/Blues
Boston
Wallys-jazz
Bob's Southern Bistro-2 blocks from Wallys-Jazz/Blues/r& b.
they all have web sites that give a listing of bands, check it out.
The bars around Quincy Market are mostly celtic and pop/rock, but they are more likely to have a frat feel.
New club opening in Boston, Beehive, jazz and r&b, it might be open by then.

Regarding Red Sox - I would advise against buying from street scalper - no guarantee what you are buying and arrests have reportedly been more frequent this year.
You do not have to pay as much as $1000 to get a seat. Most reputable ticket brokers charge about the same. We have used Ace Tickets (website of same name) and they list bad seats for any of the 3 games for $150-200. Obviously more for better seats. These least expensive seats are in Grandstand sections 2-5, which are terrible sections - one is facing away from the field and must crane neck to see game. Bleachers are far better seats and can usually be had for the same price.

Second the motion for Johnny D's, Wally's & the Middle East. Also if you like acoustic, try Club Passim in Harvard Square. I'd definitely avoid Faneuil Hall if you don't like touristy/frat bar type scenes. Hotels - depends on your price point - there are a couple of cool boutique places around Beacon Hill; near the South End there's the Park Plaza & Westin (good locations for both). In Cambridge there's the Charles Hotel in Harvard Sq, or the Sheraton Commander (less pricey). Also a couple of cool hotels - names escape me, sorry - on Mass Ave near Central Square/MIT.

I figured getting tix for the game would be expensive, especially with the matchup.
I was in Boston 17 years ago...I absolutely loved it! I am a huge traveller and nothing has intrigued than the cobblestone streets in this city.
It's a ways out, but please give me more hot spots, places YOU would go, places YOU just went THIS weekend!
I leave tomorrow for NYC until Wed. and I have gotten a lot of help in two days. Please, keep all the good advice coming!!

If you want a trendy hotel, try Nine Zero - right next to Boston Common - as with everything downtown, it's an easy walk or subway train to EVERYTHING you want to see. They're great at Nine Zero for telling you where you want to go and wil have very current information as to what's hot. Enjoy!

Boston isn't really an indie place but here are the bars I like:
Cask N Flagon and the Baseball Tavern. These are a must if you're going to a Sox game. The Cask pre-game and the roof deck of the Baseball Tavern post game. Game On is also a good pre-game place by Fenway.
Eastern Standard and the Foundation Lounge. These are bars in Kenmore Sq at the Hotel Commonwealth. Go to ES for drinks earlier in the evening (they have a gorgeous bar) and then head to Foundation Lounge later in the evening.
The District and Lucky's in the Financial District/Seaport area. The District is more of a club, Lucky's more of a bar. Lucky's has live music, both draw a good crowd.
If you like Irish bars, well there are tons, particularly in the Faneuil Hall area. I like McFadden's and the Black Rose. Also in that area, the Vault draws a nice after work crowd.
Saint is a tendy club in the Back Bay, gets going around midnight.
The South End draws a good, more upscale crowd. I like 28 Degrees and Union.
If you're around on a Wed night you may want to check out Tavern on the Water in Charlestown. It's a boat on the harbor and Wed night is always pretty crowded.
