My husband and I are planning a 5 day getaway in early November to celebrate 27 years marriage. We've investigated The Lenox, Eliot Suites, Boston Harbor and Le Meridien. The Lenox website offers a Romatic getaway that seems a good deal but wanted to get advice and suggestions before committing. Also, we're looking for "must do" suggestions as well. Thanks, Nancy

Nancy, Lenex is a perfect place to be, by Prudential center, copley Square next to Subway. a few subway stops away to go to Fanuil hall marketplace, best shopping area you will be in, back bay, and walking distance to Beacon Hill. The Duck tours are a little expensive but they are fun and you'll see areas without tired feet.

Have you looked into the Seaport Hotel?

They have hotel packages that I had wanted to book for our anniversary this weekend but alas they were all booked up.

They have package that involves room, dinner cruise, and breakfast for $299.
or the Romance with champagne, truffles, flowers, room, and breakfast in bead for $275

I'd strongly recommend against the Seaport Hotel. The hotel itself is lovely, but it is near absolutely nothing except a seldom-used convention center and the ship pier. It's not even close to the subway.

The best part of the Lenox is its location, in the center of the Back bay and near Newbury St shopping. The Lenox is an older hotel, and it's a step or two down in class from the Westin, Sheraton, Marriot, Hilton, or Fairmount (formerly Copley Plaza) that are all within a block or two.

The Boston Harbor (waterfront) and Le Meridien (financial district) are both very nice hotels, but most people who come to Boston for leisure prefer the Back Bay or Beacon Hill area.

For 'must do,' take a walking tour (either on your own or with an organized group) of the Beacon Hill area. It's one of the loveliest sections of any city, anywhere, and it's chock-full of history. Because the weather in early November can be anything from sunny and mild to rainy and bone-chillingly cold, I'd suggest that you wait until a nice day to do outdoor activities, rather than plan them in advance for specific days.

I'd recommend using Hotwire or Priceline for a 4* or better. You really can't go wrong. The difference will cover overnight parking and a lot of dining and shopping...

I've stayed at the Meridien and had a great experience there. Clean, large rooms with cordial service.

One restaurant I'd highly recommend for any romantic occasion is dinner at Audjourd'hui in the Four Seasons Hotel. Reserve one of the tables overlooking the Public Gardens, and be sure to order souffles for dessert. The service was superb, and the food and setting were great. It'll set you back about $200+, but considering the occasion, would be well worth it. Congratulations.

Stay at the Lenox. It is a great hotel, near a lot of wonderful restuarants and very accessible to transportation so if there is something you want to see or do it is really easy to get ont he t and go. The Seaport is a beautiful hotel in a really bad location (nothing to do, see and you can not leave without calling a tax). The Meridian, though lovely and has a wonderful brunch is in the financial district which is completely dead after 6 pm and on weekends.

If you are happy with the package from the Lenox book it and enjoy your anniversary!

I'd recommend The Eliot. It's cozy and in a beautiful building. It's located on Commonwealth Ave which is a tree-lined boulevard designed after the boulevards of Paris. And it's only a block away from Newbury Street.
