Seems like a long drive from SF.

Looked on the web and there doesn't seem to be a lot to do.

Is it worth one or two night stay, or is it more a one day thing, but NO over night stay?

Anybody?

We spent the night there once, but only because it was time to get off the road. It's very scenic, but not much to do. Did take the side trip to see the old school house from the movie " The Birds"

We spent four nights there with another couple in a rental house on the golf course there. We played golf everyday, had drinks on the deck overlooking the ocean, and cooked fresh seafood from the local market. We had a great time but other than the golf there really wasn't much there to do. I can't think of any good reason to visit even for a day trip unless you wanted to include it on a drive up the coast, east through the Russian River valley and down through Sonoma or Napa valleys.

As a SF local, I don't see it as a particularly long drive - I figure two hours up and back, depending on the distractions and traffic either way. It is pretty laid back and low-key. If I were staying for 2 nights, I'd be doing some side trips to the Russian River/Occidental area, driving up to Jenner and Fort Ross, etc. Lots of little "pocket" beaches on the Bodega Bay part of the Sonoma coast to take photos, have a picnic, etc. If you are based in San Francisco for your stay, it's definitely a nice day trip - plan on most of the day, though.

You can also take tours of the Marine Lab run by UCD. I don't know if the tours run all the time, but if you are at all interested in marine life, it's worth a couple of hours.

Golf, playing on the beach and tide pooling are good choices too. Great hike in Armstrong Woods nearby, or along Bodega Head. If you are into fishing, you can take boat trips also.

I think you can easily fill two nights and three days, if you like tranquil vacation spots.

Thanks for the reply guys. I really appreciate. The person planning this trip seems to like the area and is planning a two night stay. I'm playing a round of golf, so that will take up half the day. We'll try some of what was mentioned here to fill up the rest of the time.
