What are good places to stay?

Prefer more upscale but not "anti-baby"

I really don't consider much of anything on Block Island to be upscale.....given that...The Spring House, 1661 House (not all rooms have a private bath) or Atlantic would be fine. The Hygeia is nice, but a little more away from town. There are a few nice B&B's, but I'm not sure if you can stay with a baby.

Okay let's revise this to clean and nice then. Not a single house dwelling.

I would highly recommend the Atlantic Inn for your stay. It's very baby-friendly plus it's a small enough inn that with a decent baby monitor you can have drinks or tea on the porch while baby's sleeping upstairs (done it numerous times). 1661 is decent but not altogether family-friendly...it tends to bill itself as a romantic place. We actually were married there 13 years ago, have returned many times but in high season (when you're going) it's more of a couple's place. Off season is better for families. The are other options but from my experience the Atlantic is owned by parents of kids, the grounds are kid-friendly and the guests are usually more kid-friendly than not. The Spring House is a huge, old, place that has always reminded me of a fraternity house. Our stays there have only been adequate and definitely not worth the price.

I've posted a bunch of info. on Block Island....you might do a search and see if there's any other scoop you'd be interested in, especially if this is your first trip.

I think Kehsutton has given you good advice. I have a house there so I don't ever stay in the hotels. Let me know if you need advice on dining (we eaten everywhere at least 10 times) or activities. If you end up at the Spring House...avoid their concert days..it is CRAZY then.

We stayed at the Old Town Inn for a few days last year and really enjoyed it.

It is about a mile from the Old Harbor, very quiet and secluded. They do have parking, if you bring your car over. If you do plan on bringing your car, you need to reserve early.

My brother is going to BI in two weeks. He and his GF are booked at the Gothic (he read the TA reports and is a little worried). At any rate he would like some suggestions of restaurants to try. Their preference is for good food in a casual setting.

I like the Gothic. It's in a great location for a couple. I know people that have stayed there and it's fine. No it's not fancy...but that's Block Island. It is what it is. Right next door is Juice and Java....great coffee and pastries. Anyway, they may like Eli's..I've eaten there a lot and my friends eat there alot and the food is yummy...get the tuna nachos. We also like the Mohegan and Beachead. Drinks and Tapas at the Atlantic is really great. If it's a rainy night, we love the bar at the Manisses...very cozy. Everything is casual.

We rented a small house on BI when we vacationed there with our 1 year old and it was great! Can't get more baby-friendly than your own place. Prices per week are comparable to or cheaper than a hotel.
