Big Texan Restaurant / Motel, Amarillo

From what i've read, this is somewhat of a touristy place to visit/ stay. But is it okay? Is the food ok? Is the motel clean?

We'll only be passing thru but like to eat and stay in places with local 'flavor' instead of cookie-cutter Hamptons / Holiday Inns.

Thoughts? Thanks!

Does anyone know anything about this place? Other than the 72oz steak freebie offer?

Thanks!

I've driven by it. Nothing fancy. Simple Texas middle of no where feel. It's fun to stop by for a bite and gifts.

Ate there 10 years ago, nice Texas atmosphere, decent food (nothing special), more about the legend than the quality, really.

The motel was attached, it was your basic Travelodge-type place at that time. 2 or 3 floors of rooms and a parking lot.

Thanks for the replies, islandmom and clark. Sounds like the perfect quick stopover for some Texas kitcsh!

Gypsy: my hubby Clark_W_Griswold is clarkgriswolds' cousin's step-brother's son's uncle twice removed. In other words, no relation, but GREAT name!

I still have a boot glass we got from there. We used to always stop by on our way to skiing.
