Waipio Wayside above Waipio Valley is a lovely place. We would also recommend Hi'iaka House in Volcano Village, a small house with wonderful breakfast fixings and lots of character. Have friends who stayed at Huloaloa Inn near Kona and really enjoyed it. Should be able to find each of these with a web search.

In the Volcano area my wife and I stayed at an elegant inn with a gourmet breakfast and afternoon tea. It was our favorite place we've ever stayed in our travels. Its called The Inn At Volcano and is a really wonderful place. They have a very long web link:

In Kona we stayed at Hale Maluhia and liked it as well. Not as elegant but nice, centrally located and gracious hosts. Their website is:

MB, you appear to have some local knowledge of the Big Island. Do you know anything concerning the Kailua Kona Plantation House B&B? Did they go out of business? I have been unable to contact them. Thanks.

Went by, but did not stay, at the Palms at Cliff House. Gorgeous place, just north of Hilo.

Just returned from a honeymoon trip in the islands. In volcano we stayed at the volcano teapot inn. It was FANTASTIC!! Small 2 bedroom house, with fresh breakfast and snacks delivered every day. The house is on 2 acres with a beautiful garden and outdoor jacuzzi. It's owned by a wonderful couple who do a fantastic job. The rate of $150 a night is a great bargain. It's just 2 miles to volc. nat. park and we can't recommend it enough. We did not want to leave. Website is www.volcanoteapot.com
