Big Island or Kauai

my Husband and I will be taking my first/his second trip to Hawaii Mid September. We will be island hopping for two weeks, planning on doing Oahu(4 days) and Maui for sure, but need to decide between the Big Island or Kauai. Big Island for coffee plantation ( i think it would be neat, but if anyone has info pls. pass along), or Kauai just for the views, also fern grotto....
Which one ??? Please help.

If it's your first trip, you might want to check out the Big Island not just for the coffee but for the volcanoes, the Mauna Kea Observatory, etc. Kauai also has coffee. Actually, I'm not sure that seeing a coffee farm would be a tie breaker on what island you choose!

have you done a search? Try "which island" in the search box.

We are going to the Big Island next year and I too am looking forward to some good coffee. We haven't been too wowed with Kauai Coffee.

So, yes, I am with MelissaHI..The Big Island.

thanks for all the help, wasn't deciding based on coffee ( even though I am coffee crazy, just wanted to get a "feel" about both islands before deciding.)

Even though I normally would be very skeptical when Melissa, iceu2 and Kal all agree on something, I have to concur with the majority opinion, Big Island.

We are going in October {my 1st visit, DH's 2nd} and we are doing 5 days on both Oahu and Maui and 3 days on BI. DH hasn't been to BI and wants to see Volcano NP and so do I!

Hope this helps...

{see my posting here on Google notebook...it has info that I am putting together for our trip.} I'll top it for you.

More choices of coffee platations on big island south of Kona. I agree with the gang.

Hi Ody. The coffee on Kauai is nowhere near as good as BI's Kona...
but since that isn't the main decding factor for you, a "vote" for Kauai--the views especially on No. Shore are awesome!!
However, as SistahLou said, Fern Grotto is closed now, due to destructive rains this past Spring. It'll re-open eventually, but probably not by mid-Seotember. You could call Smith's Tropical Garden in Kauai to check, as they take the boats to the grotto.

Have a great trip with your husband, whichever island you decide on.
