I'll be visiting Boston in April over Patriot's day weekend. Do you recommend walking or renting a bicycle to get around town? I'll be commuting from downtown (Govt Center) to North End (Revere house) and Boylston St (MHS) to do research. Has anyone ever taken Boston Bike Tours Revere ride? Any guidance would be great.

Govt. Ctr and North End are right next to each other - no need for bike or any transportation other than feet. Depending on where on Boyston St. (do not know what MHS is), it is also likely to be walkable - if not, it will be on MBTA.

I have friends who will bike on city streets of Boston - I think they are crazy - traffic, potholes, construction, etc.

If Revere bike ride follows route of Paul Revere's ride - it would be a nice, although long, ride. Know nothing about this specific tour, though.

Forget about using a bicycle to get around Boston -- it's full of potholes and crazy drivers, as well as weird street patterns so you'll get lost.

Walk and use the subway (Green line to get from Govt Center or North Station to Hynes stop for MHS at 1154 Boylston). Many businesses are closed for the Monday holiday, do check opening hours especially MHS.

I just reread your post - PATRIOTS DAY WEEKEND - hope you realize that Monday is Boston Marathon. A big part of downtown area will be closed to traffic, grid-locked with people - a fun spectacle to watch, but adds to difficulty getting around city.

Hope you already have reservations for place to stay - rates will be high that weekend, availability tough, and some places will have multi-night stay requirement.

Also, probably not the best time to do Paul Revere bike ride - likely to be some overlap of roads/routes or at least alternate-route-seekers along the route.

Thanks for the info. Think I'll do the Revere ride (which comes with a bike rental) and is on 4/18 so should miss the marathon madness. I got a room thru Priceline for $110/nt at the Holiday Inn Select Boston Govt Center. I forgot about the free rebid when dropping from **** to *** so might have been able to get it for slightly less. In any case, it is now sold out and rooms seem to go for about $130 there wkdays and $170 wknds.
If any of you have ever used the GoBoston card, I'd love some feedback. I decided to try it b/c they have a special 3-day card for the 2-day price.

I've never heard of the GoBoston card until today. I looked at its website, and I can't help but thinking that it's very expensive. Unless you're planning to go to all their museums. I also looked at the restaurant & shopping list - doesn't look that attractive to me either. Maybe other people will have a different opinion...
