Best Wedding / Honeymoon Sites

Any suggestions on the best place to get hitched / honeymoon in the U.S., Mexico, or the Caribbean. We're looking at a late October date. Thanks!!!!

Doesn't anyone get married in their hometowns anymore? Do people randomly choose a place to get married and expect friends and loved ones to show up? Doesn't this cause undue hardship to a lot of people? Maybe someone can explain this phenomenon to me. (I must be getting old and crotchety )

Lori...look for the thread, "Where do you consider home and why" and you'll find part of your answer. We are a society on the move.

Take our daughter. She and her husband met in college, College Station, TX...we lived in Dallas, he lived in Houston. The kids didn't get married right out of school, but moved to Phoenix where he is going to grad school. Now we've got 4 cities involved. Between then and the time they got married, his parents retired and moved from Houston to SC, and we were transferred from Dallas to Savannah. 6 cities. We were beginning to plan her wedding for Savannah when we were transferred again, now to Tampa. 7 cities from engagement to marriage. WE were encouraging THEM to consider a Caribbean wedding. No one knew anyone here--virtually everyone who came was coming from some distance, and as long as most everyone was flying in, wouldn't it be nice to fly into some beautiful little island?

Maybe you and your fiancee could research the various places together; that might be fun.

Anyway, in a blind attempt to answer your question: Within your rather broad geographical area, I think the Pacific coast of the U.S. or Mexico would have the best weather that time of year. But you really cannot go wrong with any of those--unless there is a late-season gulf hurricane.

I hate to add more than was asked, but if you're getting married in late October, have you considered the mid-south (Tennessee/Virginia)? The colors would be at their peak and there a lot of resorts perfect for the honeymoon thing.

Good luck.

CMcDaniel, that must be what worst-case scenario wedding planning looks like. <g> Yours is indeed a family on the move! If it was me, I probably would have encouraged an elopement.

Thanks for the replys so far. Lori - this is the 3rd marriage for both of us and while we are considering a small cerimony with family in our home town, we are also looking for a place that is romantic and fun - since this definetly will be our LAST marriage ! Some place in the U.S. or Mexico? Hadn't though of the deep south - sound very interesting!!!! We've heard of a few resorts in Jamica and we're also considering Hawaii, Destin or Key West in Florida. All of those are beach places, but we're not 'wedded' to the sea, so to speak Since we're not 'spring chickens' anymore, someplace relaxing where we can just spend time alone, reveling in each other with no kids.... big sigh... Thanks All !!!

i am a total broken record...but KONA VILLAGE RESORT on the big island of hawaii has your name written all over it. konavillage.com...or post back if you want any more feedback, if you decide to go i can tell which Hales are the best for your price. i walked around the resort with the map of hales and circled the ones i want to stay in when i return...that's how much i loved it.

Brendan,

How about California wine country? Not sure what the weather is like there in October though. There are wineries where you can have your wedding. I would have loved something like that if we were having a small intimate affair rather than a big one in my fiance's hometown.

There is an incredibly romantic small resort called Ladera on the island of St. Lucia, perched high on a hillside overlooking two mountains and the Caribbean. I can't think of a lovelier place, and I know they do weddings. The staff is great and the food in the restaurant is incredible. It's a unique resort in that all the guest rooms are open-air, meaning that the fourth wall of every room is missing so that you face the vista of the Caribbean and the Piton mountains. You can actually see the stars from your bed at night. The rooms also have private plunge pools. Look up www.ladera-resort.com and also do a search on the Caribbean forum. I highly recommend this place.

A close second choice, not in Mexico or the Caribbean though, would be another small resort called Villa Caletas in Costa Rica. It is high up on a cliff, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. They have a small amphitheatre that faces the incredible view, and I think getting married there at sunset would be absolutely amazing, although I actually don't know if they do weddings. The website is http://www.distinctivehotels.com/hot...etas/index.htm

In the U.S., my first choice would be Big Sur. Check out www.ventana-inn.com or www.postranchinn.com
